What do the dress up days mean and do I have to dress up?
Each day during HC week has a theme and students are encouraged to dress in the theme of the day to show their school spirit.
Is the HC parade like a real parade with Mardi Gras floats?
Various student groups, clubs, and organizations participate in the HC Parade. Some march, some decorate golf carts, and some decorate trucks as floats.
Most of them throw candy and trinkets to parade watchers, much like during
Mardi Gras. However, the parade is on campus and is a much smaller scale.
Is there a HC Dance?
Unfortunately, there is no dance scheduled for this year.
When do students go out to eat? Typically, students would get dressed up and ready for HC and go out to eat prior to attending the dance. Since there is no dance, however, it is up to you and your friends to decide when to go out. Most students go out to dinner in groups and this year students are going ahead and making plans to dress up and go out to dinner on Saturday night. This will not be a formal event, but rather a nice evening out with friends.

From time to time, we will have mid-week posts for items that we don't want to get lost in the shuffle. This special edition concerns all things HOMECOMING!
If you are new to the world of High School Homecoming (HC), then it can seem a bit overwhelming. Hopefully, you will find the answers here to some of your questions regarding the traditions surrounding the annual CCHS Homecoming.
|
Every day during HC week, there is a theme for students to dress up and show their school spirit. Dress code still applies, though, so make sure outfits are still school-appropriate. This year, the students voted on the themed days and they are:
Monday - College Team Day
Tuesday - Frat Day
Wednesday - Decades Day
Thursday - Winter Holiday in October
Friday - Creek Out
For example, on Monday, wear your favorite college gear; on Tuesday, go Greek and sport your parents' (or your future) fraternity (or sorority) gear; on Wednesday, dress in a poodle skirt, bust out those old bell bottoms, wear a flashy disco outfit (you get the idea); on Thursday, wear your best Ugly Christmas sweater; on Friday, wear any and everything you own in CREEK colors! Seniors ONLY will wear decorated overalls and crowns.
Not every student dresses up during HC week, but most do. Students, if you dress up, be sure to tag us in your social media posts!

Homecoming Parade & Candlelight Service
|
On Monday, Sept. 28
th, at 7:15 PM, there will be a HC Parade followed by a Candlelight Ceremony. The Marching band, Cheerleaders, Cavaliers, Football Team, The HC Court, and various other organizations, all march from the far side of campus toward Veterans Memorial Stadium, some in car "floats." They throw out candy and trinkets to the kids lining the parade route, so families are encouraged to attend and cheer on our team as they march toward the field. Once inside the stadium, there is a mini-Pep Rally as the sun goes down. Once it is dark, the candles are lit in the stands across the field to spell out 'CREEK.' This is a very fun event and a nice way to kick off HC Week.
|
Homecoming Carnival & Pep Rally
|
On Friday during each lunch period, the Courtyard is transformed into an energetic and fun carnival atmosphere. Various groups and booster clubs host booths as fundraisers. Everything for sale that day is bought with tickets... so come with lots of cash for tickets to stock up on food and goodies! Examples of booths from past years' carnivals include: Creek bandanas, finger-sized mums, fried oreos, Chick-fil-A sandwiches, BBQ, Kona Ice, photo booths, various games, and much more!
The Clear Creek Chamber Choir performs throughout the carnival and provides the music that you hear blasted through the courtyard.
After the carnival, to end the school day, there is a Pep Rally in Carlisle Field House. Students sit in the stands in sections according to grade. The choir sings, the drum line plays, the Cheerleaders perform, the Cavalier Seniors perform their always popular hop hop routine, the HC Court is introduced, and all of the Varsity Football Team is introduced. The students also vote a teacher to kiss a pig! Friendly spirit competition abounds between classes at this super fun event!
Remember - this is the day you CREEK OUT and wear your maroon - and Seniors wear their overalls. It is also MUM day!

Homecoming Mums - General Information
|
The HC Mum originally started out as a real chrysanthemum flower given by a boy to his date to the HC game/dance, sometimes adorned with just a few small ribbons in school colors. Over the years, the mums became larger and more elaborate, eventually giving way to the silk mums used today. Mums are a huge part of the HC tradition here in Texas.
Your son will invariably ask to either buy or make a mum for his date or your daughter will ask you to either buy or make a garter for her date. If they don't have a date, then they will make a mum/garter for themselves. The mums are worn to school on the Friday of Homecoming for the Carnival and Pep Rally and then that night at the Homecoming Football Game. Believe it or not, the
re are some protocols and guidelines for mums, depending on the grade of the student. Those are listed in the next section.
In general, the mum should be a personal reflection of the student who will be wearing it - it can be big and flashy or small and simple. It can have names on it, trinkets reflecting teams and organizations to which the students belong, and favorite stuffed animals - anything goes when personalizing! If the boyfriend/girlfriend attends another high school, it is considered appropriate to split the mum to represent both schools. The mum-wearer's home school gets the majority of the colors, but you can accent with some of the other school's colors as well.
Don't worry if you aren't crafty - local grocery and craft stores sell pre-made mums or bases for mums that just require a little bit of personalizing to be complete. You can also purchase mums from crafty women who have made businesses out of mum-making... search for them on the internet, they exist!
*NOTE - not everyone wears a mum and not every mum has to be big and flashy. It is up to the individual and what they like.

Homecoming Mums - Protocol and Guidelines
|
Freshman Homecoming Mum
: If you are buying/making a homecoming mum for a Freshman, you need a Single Mum (meaning only 1 flower). The flower can be any size you would like as long as it is only 1 flower. The mum needs to be in the school colors with a coordinating metallic color (silver or gold, though Creek is typically silver). A little bit of an accent color is ok, too (like zebra, cheetah, hot pink, etc.), but usually only Seniors add accent colors.
Sophomore Homecoming Mum
: If you are buying/making a homecoming mum for a Sophomore, you will need a Double Mum (meaning 2 flowers). It is acceptable to have a Single Homecoming Mum instead (whichever you prefer) - the double is just tradition. The mum should be made in the school colors with a coordinating metallic color (silver or gold, though Creek is typically silver). If you want a little bit of accent color added, that's ok, too (such as zebra, cheetah, hot pink, etc), but usually only Seniors add accent colors.
Junior Homecoming Mum
: If you are buying/making a homecoming mum for a Junior then tradition is a Triple Homecoming Mum (meaning 3 flowers), however, with Juniors, you can do any size you want other than a quad. Again, the mum should be in the school colors with a coordinating metallic color (silver or gold, though Creek is typically silver) and a little bit of accent color if desired, but usually only Seniors add accent colors.
Senior Homecoming Mum
: If you are buying/making a homecoming mum for a Senior, then you can pretty much make whatever you want. Tradition would be a Quad Homecoming Mum which is 4 flowers. Another fun way is to have a Triple Mum with a Single mum that goes over the Shoulder. There are also Quints (5 flowers) and beyond - these typically would be worn only by a Senior. Senior mums will be all white with silver and lately some seniors add an accent color or favorite color to it as well (like hot pink, turquoise or zebra, etc). Think of the Senior Mum as being your biggest and best mum you have out of all your high school years.
Homecoming Garters ALL CLASSES:
Homecoming garters are a little different. The same theory applies (a freshman wouldn't have a double or triple garter) but most guys will opt for a single garter all the way through high school. Juniors usually opt for a
mum that is a little bigger to signify the upper classman status. Most Seniors will do a huge single garter, however in the past few years double and triple mum garters have gained in popularity. The colors work the same way with Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors keeping strictly to the school colors, while Senior garters are white and silver.

|
There are certain HC traditions reserved only for Seniors. These are the wearing of decorated overalls and crowns.
Overalls - Seniors will decorate either short overalls or long overalls and show their Creek spirit off on Friday to Creek Out!
Crowns - Seniors are the royalty of the school, and they will wear their crowns on Friday to show it. These range from simple to elaborate, depending on preference.

As with all of our Creek football games, we like to have a large and loud student section. The same seniority rules apply as during a normal football game. What differs is that students wearing their mums and pregame activities help to set the festive atmosphere as we root our team on to victory.
During pregame, the Clear Creek Choir will sing the National Anthem and then the Homecoming Court will be introduced and the Homecoming Queen will be crowned.
The Presentation of the HC Court will begin at 6:30 pm and the game will kick off at 7:00 pm - our varsity team will be facing off against the Clear Falls Knights.

What do you do with a mum and why? A mum is traditionally given to your date. You exchange mums with them, much like you would a corsage and boutonniere for a dance. If you have no date, you make one for yourself. They are worn to show school spirit!
Why are mums so big?
Mums are a personal reflection of the wearer. Some like to keep theirs small and simple and some like to have theirs big and flashy. You wear the mum that is right for you! Can I buy a mum? I'm not crafty?
Yes, mums are available to buy pre-made. Most local grocery stores and craft stores, as well as florists, offer ready-made mums in our school colors. You would still want to add some personal touches, though. Lots of students have mum-making get-togethers where everyone brings supplies to share and they all spend a day crafting together. This may be a good option if you think you aren't crafty - you would be surprised at how creative you can be with a little bit of help!
Why can't I do white? I don't like maroon. Unfortunately, I have some bad news. In mum protocol, white and silver mums are reserved to denote the Seniors on campus. It is an honor they have spent three full years earning. Since maroon is your school color, I would suggest making a mum using mostly white with some black and just a few maroon ribbons thrown in for accents. The mum does not have to be completely maroon, but you shouldn't make an all white one either.
