City launches online tool to support local businesses
in recovering from COVID-19

The City's Economic Development Division has launched a new online business intelligence tool called "SizeUp Ventura" to provide access to market research information and support local businesses in recovering from COVID-19.

Using the new SizeUp Ventura website, local businesses have free access to: 

  1. Rank their business performance compared to industry competitors,
  2. Discover potential customers and suppliers,
  3. Better understand the competitive landscape, and
  4. Optimize advertising to target ideal customer segments.
Ventura Fire Reminds Residents to Clear Brush ahead of Fire Season

Ventura City Fire Marshal, Joe Morelli, joins Our Ventura TV to talk more about our Fire Hazard Reduction Program (FHRP) and how residents in high-risk areas can create a defensible space.

He discusses how our Fire Prevention Division works to prepare the city for fire season, what residents can expect with FHRP requirements, how the City supports residents in reducing fire risk, and more!

Ventura Police to hold a
DUI Checkpoint on May 7, 2021

The Ventura Police Department Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Ventura on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. 

The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety by deterring residents from driving impaired. If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying safe at home. If you see a drunk driver, always call 9-1-1. 
Public Works Quarterly Update

The City's Public Works team has been working hard to make improvements around our city! In the last three months city staff has:

🕳️ Filled over 600 potholes
🛠️ Improved over 600 sidewalks
🎨 Removed over 500 graffiti sites
🌧️ Cleaned almost 200 storm drains
♻️ And diverted over 16 TONS
of household hazardous waste!

The ban on polystyrene containers was unanimously approved by the City Council in November 2020.
EPS Ban Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Food and Beverage Containers Ban
 
Ventura joins more than 100 California cities and counties in banning expanded polystyrene (EPS) containers used at restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, and other businesses.

Commonly known as styrofoam, the EPS ban goes into effect on July 1, 2021.

Educational resources and support for local businesses switching to EPS alternatives are available from our Environmental Sustainability team.

 
Please Note: A one-year exemption is available for businesses experiencing financial hardships from the EPS Ban.
