Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST) is proud to present Disney’s Newsies JR., a fast-paced, heart-pounding musical that brings the spirit of Broadway to downtown Clearfield with an inspiring message for audiences of all ages.
Performances will take place February 6–7 and 12–14 at 7:30 PM, with a matinee on February 8 at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $17 and are available now at ClearfieldArts.org or in person at the CAST office on Thursdays from 5:00–6:00 PM. Tickets are going fast.
Based on the 2012 Broadway musical and the beloved 1992 film, Newsies JR. features a book by Harvey Fierstein and music by Alan Menken. This 60-minute adaptation tells the story of the real-life Newsboys’ Strike of 1899, as the determined and charismatic Jack Kelly leads fellow newsies to stand up against powerful publishers who raise prices at their expense. What begins as a bold idea grows into a citywide movement—proving that “when you’re united, you’re unstoppable.”
With unforgettable songs and high-energy choreography, the show captures the heart of youthful determination and the power of collective action. As the newsies declare “The world will know!” and rally with “once and for all, there’s change coming,” audiences are reminded that even the smallest voices can make a powerful impact. And, of course, the call to action rings loud and clear: “Seize the day!”
The production is co-directed by Mason and Kellie Strouse, with Ty Elensky serving as Music Director. Choreography is led by Breanna and Josh Blaylock, bringing dynamic movement and momentum to every number. Shelby Flanagan serves as Stage Manager, with Audrey Harmic as Student Stage Manager.
“This show is full of energy, heart, and purpose,” shared the directing team. “Newsies JR. is about young people discovering their voices, standing up for what’s right, and realizing that together they can change the world.”
