Thank you for subscribing to the Clearinghouse e-newsletter and partnering in our efforts to provide short-term assistance to low income families while providing educational and training opportunities to enable these families to become self-sufficient.


Please mark your calendar for our next Clearinghouse Monthly Meeting on February 12th at 8:00 a.m. at the Clearinghouse . This meeting is o pen to all nonprofit organizations, churches, and individuals providing programs and services to residents in southeastern Indiana.

Our guest speaker for February will be Sheila Coffin and Nita Scarff from United Way. Among other subjects, they will be speaking of the VITA Tax Preparation services they'll be offering again this year until March 15th, 2019.

Clearinghouse Employee Spotlight
Konnie McCollum with River Valley Resources
Konnie McCollum started working for RVR as a Rural Works case manager. She helped develop the educational/certification project, known nationally as the Madison Model, for women at the Madison Correctional Facility. She was promoted in 2018 to RVR Adult Education Director for Regions 9-10 in Indiana, and under her leadership, RVR Adult Education has flourished as a leader in the state with many new educational projects and partnerships with area employer.

In her personal life, Konnie is a marathon runner and has qualified for the Boston Marathon several times. She is also a Taekwondo master and practices at a local school.

Clearinghouse Programs & Services
The following programs and services are consistently available at the Clearinghouse:
adult education (High School Equivalency Diploma and college preparation classes); employment and training programs for adults, dislocated workers, youth and persons with disabilities; unemployment services; veteran services; mental health and counseling services; domestic violence services; health screenings; insurance sign up clinic; pro bono legal clinic; support groups; and material aid in the form of a food pantry.

New Clearinghouse Scheduling Policy in Effect
To any organizations using Clearinghouse space to host events or provide services, we are now requesting 48 hours notice when adding new events to the calendar or when requesting for a change of room. We also request to be notified as soon as possible in the event of a change of hours, or cancellation.

Going forward into 2019, the Free Legal Advice Clinic will no longer have in person sessions hosted at the Clearinghouse. The legal organization offering the service, The Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic, are moving to a phone-based and online-based legal advice system. They have test-driven the online method and are averaging a response from a staff attorney within three days. People who call legal advice line receive advice within the day or right away, depending on whether an attorney is on the line with another person or not.

Need Help to Quit Smoking?
The Indiana Tobacco Quitline 1-800-QUIT-NOW ( 800-784-8669) is a free phone-based counseling service that helps Indiana tobacco users quit. Funded by the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency, the Indiana Tobacco Quitline offers experienced professional Quit Coaches® trained in cognitive behavioral therapy. 100% free. 100% confidential.
Pregnant and Ready to Quit Smoking?
This is a program for pregnant tobacco users. Those who complete the structured program have the opportunity to receive free diapers for their new baby.

Hot meals, fellowship, entertainment, and activities for those
over 60 years old
Located at the Madison Senior Center, 208 W. Main Street, Madison, IN 47250, between 9:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.

Contact Gary Hewitt, SNAC Director at 812-265-5376 to reserve a meal. Meals must be reserved a day in advance by noon. Meals are on a donation basis.
Treatment is available for Homeless Individuals residing any of the following Indiana Counties: Monroe, Morgan, Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Jennings, Jackson, Rush, Fayette, or Wayne 
The Finding Home, Health and Community program (FHHC) seeks to provide services to individuals experiencing homelessness including assistance in identifying and securing housing, access to insurance benefits, SNAP, SSI/SSDI, employment, as well as opportunities to address SMI and Co-Occurring Disorder issues.


 Nurse-Family Partnership is a free program that provides support to first-time moms. Moms who sign up are paired with their own personal nurse, specially trained to help new moms face the challenges of pregnancy and parenthood.

To qualify for the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program, a woman must:

  • Be less than 28 weeks pregnant
  • Have no previous live births
  • Be low-income-eligible for Medicaid
  • Live in Clark, Floyd, Washington, Scott, Orange, Jennings, Jackson, Jefferson, Lawrence, Harrison, and Crawford counties
Foster Parents are people just like you.
You don’t need to live in a big house, you can be single or married, you don’t need to have kids of your own, you don’t need to have a lot of money and you don’t need a degree in social work. You just need to be someone with the desire to provide a safe, nurturing home to a youth who needs a helping hand.

Eating Disorder Support Group of Southeastern Indiana 
Did you know that at least 30 million people of all ages and genders suffer from an eating disorder in the U.S.?

Eating disorders also have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness.

A support group meets at the Lawrenceburg Community Center every Friday 6-7 p.m.

The KDH Women's Cancer Support Group is open to all women who are cancer survivors - whether newly diagnosed or a long-time survivor.

The Women's Cancer Support Group meets monthly from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the KDH Conference Center - basement level of King's Daughters' Hospital, 1373 East SR 62, Madison.
