Clemson Entrepreneur of the Week

Kevin Williamson

Founder and CEO, CAPC, Certified Athletic Performance Coach

B.S., Public Health Education and Promotion, 2016

What role do you play in the entrepreneurial ecosystem?

I built CAPC as the first purpose-built solution for secondary school athletic coaches. It has two components working together: a certification that trains and credentials coaches, and a longitudinal athlete tracking platform that gives those coaches the infrastructure to develop athletes safely over time. The certification creates the standard. The platform sustains it. For the Clemson community, I want to be a resource for students exploring careers in sport science, education, and technology, and a long-term partner in what Dr. Hannon is building here.

What are some of your best memories of your time at Clemson?

Two moments. The first is coming down the hill. My path to Clemson was not traditional. I started at Morehead State, transferred to Mt. San Antonio College, and broke my wrist on the first defensive series of the first game of the season, after a hamstring strain had already cost me a summer training opportunity with professionals during the NFL lockout. So stepping off that bus and coming down that hill carried everything.

The second is Dr. Clements's handshake. The road to that stage had its own battles, and reaching that finish line meant as much as anything I did on the field.

What were the key inflection points in your career after you left Clemson?

Three key inflection points stand out. The first is one every athlete who does not go pro will face: mourning the game. You gave it everything and then it is over. Processing that honestly was the foundation for everything after. The second was trusting God over my own plan. I had mapped out seven years in collegiate or professional strength and conditioning before starting a business at 35. I started PWR Performance at 28. I turn 35 this November. The third is now. CAPC is a full pivot. Raising capital for the first time, building academic partnerships, learning SaaS. It is stretching me in a new way, and I would not trade it.

What are your personal and professional dreams?

Personally, I spent a lot of my life figuring things out alone. At this stage, as a husband and father, family is the priority. Entrepreneurship does not come with balance, but what I am building must also create the conditions for real time with the people I love most.

Professionally, to see CAPC become the recognized national standard for secondary school athletic coaches. Every district in this country has coaches responsible for the physical development and safety of young athletes. Every one of them deserves the tools to do that job well.

What would you recommend students do to maximize their remaining time at Clemson?

Connect. Connect. Connect. That is coming from an introvert. Know your professional direction before your playing career ends if you are an athlete, and before graduation if you are not. That clarity tells you who to be in the room with. You have less time than you think and the Clemson network rewards those who use it with intention..

What else should we know about you?

Alongside our co-founder and a fellow classmate, I am helping build an entrepreneurship center at Parish Episcopal School in Dallas. Called The Hall, it is a selective, cohort-based program where high school students build ventures, generate revenue, and learn through hands-on work supported by world-class mentors, Parish alumni, and the DFW entrepreneurial ecosystem. The program is designed to develop builders, not just business students, and connects directly to the mission behind CAPC: putting the right tools in the hands of young people and those who develop them.
