Clemson Entrepreneur of the Week

Kyle Clements

Quipli, Founder & CEO

B.S. in Civil Engineering, 2013

What role do you play in the entrepreneurial ecosystem?

I'm the Founder & CEO of Quipli, a vertical software company serving the equipment rental industry. I've been building and working on various startups for the past 10 years and find myself drawn to the building and operating side of being in the trenches and building software companies.

What are some of your best memories of your time at Clemson?

Clemson football games definitely rank as a highlight. My Junior year in 2011, me and my friends attended all 13 regular season games in-person (including the ACC Championship game). The only game we missed was the Orange Bowl game against WVU ... but we won't talk about that.

What were the key inflection points in your career after you left Clemson?

After leaving Clemson, I interned with fellow Clemson alum Eric Thome who was running a folding kayak startup in Charleston, SC. That summer internship led me to founding my first startup, Rebōt, which recycled old kayaks into dog collars, wallets, and wine totes. Although the company lasted less than one year, I was hooked. I knew that building startups was what I wanted to do with my professional career.

What are your personal and professional dreams?

Personally, I want to be a great father and husband. I have two girls (Ellie and Finley), and being a parent is one of life's highest calling. I'd also love to live abroad with our family at some point, too.

Professionally, I want to build Quipli into the market leader in our space. We have a long way to go, but ultimately, I want to continue to build Quipli into a company that our entire team is proud of.

What would you recommend students do to maximize their remaining time at Clemson?

Connect with as many Clemson alumni as you can. Clemson alumni are always willing to help out fellow Tigers. My connection with Eric 10 years ago, led me down a path that I would not have imagined. You never know where one conversation can go.

What else should we know about you?
