The City of Cleveland Heights will hold its 2nd Annual Black History Month Celebration on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from Noon to 5:00 pm.
The event will take place at the Cleveland Heights Community Center located at 1 Monticello Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118.

Second Suspect Arrested for January 4 Robbery on East Overlook Road in Cleveland Heights | |

The Cleveland Heights Police Department announced today that a second suspect was identified and arrested in connection with the January 4, 2024, Aggravated Robbery that occurred at approximately 4:30 pm East Overlook Road.
The victim in this incident was a 19-year-old woman whose car was stolen at gunpoint. Her car was later recovered on January 22, 2024, in Cleveland.
Joseph Byron Littlejohn surrendered to Cleveland Heights police on January 16 on charges related to this incident and the Aggravated Murder of Alexander Gurley, which occurred at the same location later on January 4.
At approximately 6:00 am today, Thursday, February 1, 2024, CHPD Detectives and the EDGE SWAT team executed a search and arrest warrant for Aggravated Robbery on a second suspect in the January 4 robbery, 18-year-old Quinten Terry Manning of 14302 Idarose Avenue in Cleveland.
Terry Manning was found in the home and was taken into custody. The search warrant also resulted in the recovery of evidence of suspected criminal activity.
Terry Manning is currently in Cleveland Heights’ jail awaiting his court appearance.
The investigation into the January 4 incidents is ongoing.

Cleveland Heights allocates $400,000 for Cumberland Pool repairs; no interruption expected this swim season |  | |

The future of the historic Cumberland Pool in Cleveland Heights is bright. The city recently passed a budget that allocates $400,000 for new boilers and to fix leaks at the nearly 100-year-old pool.
Opening in 1927, Cumberland Pool has seen generations enjoy it for both exercise and entertainment.
“We have a swim show every year, and it's very much a throwback to the 50s,” said Susan Ford, a resident of Cleveland Heights. “We have synchronized swimmers and divers. And my children were involved in it growing up."
The future of Cumberland Pool has been a hot topic for many in the community. City leaders said the pool needs significant repairs. In October 2023, the mayor announced feasibility studies looking into overhauling the pool and the potential of building an indoor pool at the city’s recreation center. Former Cleveland Heights Police Department Captain Robert D. Wilson has Passed Away | |
We are sad to report that former Cleveland Heights Police Department Captain Bob Wilson passed away on January 25, 2024.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held from 2:00–4:00 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Cleveland Heights Community Center, 1 Monticello Boulevard. Military Honors will be performed at 4 PM.
CHPD Chief Chris Britton would like to invite current and past officers and all of those who knew Captain Wilson to attend the event.

If you're a Heights resident attending public or private middle school, Building Heights would love to have you make movies or music at one of its programs this spring and summer!
Heights Middle School Shorts is a three-week mixed media film arts camp for students in sixth through eighth grade where production teams produce, film, and help edit short films. Scholarships are available. Applications are being accepted here through March 31.
HMSS Film Scores is a FREE four-week camp from the end of February through March, where participants compose original music that will be featured in the films produced in Heights Middle School Shorts. Limited space is available. Applications are being accepted here through February 16.

Cuyahoga County's Property Reappraisal Process for Cleveland Heights Began This Week |

The City of Cleveland Heights received notice this week that Cuyahoga County's 2024 property reappraisal process began in our city on January 31, 2024.
Reappraising property in Cleveland Heights should take between two to four weeks. During this time, Fiscal Officer Appraisers will review every parcel of land in our city, so you may see them in your neighborhood looking at properties.
Every appraiser will have a Cuyahoga County-issued photo ID to help ensure residents can recognize them. They also will have signs identifying them in the front and back windows of their vehicles.
If you have any concerns about whether someone is an appraiser, ask to see their ID. They will be more than happy to show it to you.

Cleveland Heights Council to discuss resolution supporting cease-fire in Gaza | |

After repeated requests from residents seeking a formal resolution in support of a cease-fire in Gaza, the City Council will revisit proposed legislation for further discussion early next month.
During public comment at the council’s Jan. 16 meeting, Charter Review Commission Secretary Graham Ball asked the elected body to bring forward the resolution for a cease-fire that was drafted by former City Council President Melody Joy Hart.

The Cleveland Heights High School Instrumental Music Department will present its Mid-Winter Concerts on Thursday, February 8, and Friday, February 9. Concerts are at 7 p.m. in the Cleveland Heights High Auditorium and are free and open to the public.
Thursday’s concert will feature Symphonic Winds, the Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band under the direction of Nicholas Marzuola.
Friday’s concert will feature senior soloist Marquis Payton (pictured above) playing Vivaldi’s G Major Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. The evening’s programs will also include performances by the Heights High Symphony, Philharmonic Strings, Concert Orchestra, and Roxboro and Monticello Middle School Orchestra students under the direction Daniel Heim.
