Cleveland Heights allocates $400,000 for Cumberland Pool repairs; no interruption expected this swim season

From WEWS-Channel 5 News

The future of the historic Cumberland Pool in Cleveland Heights is bright. The city recently passed a budget that allocates $400,000 for new boilers and to fix leaks at the nearly 100-year-old pool.

Opening in 1927, Cumberland Pool has seen generations enjoy it for both exercise and entertainment.

“We have a swim show every year, and it's very much a throwback to the 50s,” said Susan Ford, a resident of Cleveland Heights. “We have synchronized swimmers and divers. And my children were involved in it growing up."

The future of Cumberland Pool has been a hot topic for many in the community. City leaders said the pool needs significant repairs. In October 2023, the mayor announced feasibility studies looking into overhauling the pool and the potential of building an indoor pool at the city’s recreation center. In News 5’s original report, Mayor Kahlil Seren said he was committed to modernizing Cumberland Pool...

After 29 Years, Stone Oven Bakery in Cleveland Heights to Change Hands

The new owners are also Cleveland Heights residents

From Cleveland Scene

When Tatyana Rehn and John Emerman opened the Stone Oven in 1995, quality bread bakeries were still a rarity, both in Cleveland and beyond. Shoppers in search of the kind of naturally leavened artisan-style breads that they might have enjoyed overseas had little joy over here – that is until Stone Oven opened in Cleveland Heights. (Zoss the Swiss Baker, also in Cleveland Heights, would open the following year.)

In 2005, after a decade in business, Rehn and Emerman relocated Stone Oven (2267 Lee Rd.) down the street to its current location, where it has thrived for another 19 years. Now, after 29 years in the café business, the founders are ready to pass the torch...

Cleveland Heights streamlines zoning along South Taylor corridor

From Cleveland.com

City Council has adopted a newer “form-based” approach to zoning, particularly in the South Taylor Road corridor.

That form mirrors the one in place for the $60 million Marquee at Cedar-Lee project site, where city officials created the “C2X-Commercial Multiple-Use” district 20 years ago to encourage development around the parking garage built a few years later.

The move from traditional "Euclidean" to form-based zoning replaces seven different districts with one...

Cleveland's jazz impresario Jim Wadsworth keeps the music alive, booking top acts in local clubs

From Cleveland.com

If you are a music lover who has attended a live jazz show in Northeast Ohio over the past 30 years, chances are better than good that you’ve been to a Jim Wadsworth Production. Indeed, you could argue that Wadsworth, with a big assist from his business partner Steve Frumkin, has almost singlehandedly kept the live jazz concert scene alive in these parts since JWP first started booking shows in the early 1990s.

Sure, Playhouse Square and the Tri-C JazzFest have done their parts, booking top-name jazz acts to theaters, college auditoriums and other big venues. But when it comes to bringing national touring acts and top local talent to clubs -- where jazz can be experienced as it was really meant to be experienced -- Wadsworth & Co. are king. Over the years, they have brought many of the top names in jazz to town to play intimate gigs at places ranging from Peabody’s DownUnder to Wilbert’s and Nighttown and many more...

Cuyahoga County's Property Reappraisal Process for Cleveland Heights Began This Week

  • Appraisers will visit all Cleveland Heights neighborhoods
  • Only EXTERIORS of properties will be appraised
  • Appraisals occur every three years
house_in_green_woods.jpg

The City of Cleveland Heights received notice this week that Cuyahoga County's 2024 property reappraisal process began in our city on January 31, 2024.

Reappraising property in Cleveland Heights should take between two to four weeks. During this time, Fiscal Officer Appraisers will review every parcel of land in our city, so you may see them in your neighborhood looking at properties.

Every appraiser will have a Cuyahoga County-issued photo ID to help ensure residents can recognize them. They also will have signs identifying them in the front and back windows of their vehicles.

If you have any concerns about whether someone is an appraiser, ask to see their ID. They will be more than happy to show it to you.

For more information, visit the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer's webpage.
