Lutheran East Boys Basketball wins D-3 state championship

The team will be presented with a Mayoral Proclamation at the April 20 City Council Meeting

Laila Edwards part of championship team again

Thirty-one days after winning Olympic Gold at the XXV Winter Olympic Games, Laila Edwards is once again a national champion. The No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers defeated No. 1 rival the Ohio State Buckeyes 3-2 to win the 2026 NCAA Frozen Four on March 22.

Edwards, a senior forward/defender, finishes her outstanding collegiate career a three-time NCAA national champion having played in 154 games in which she scored 81 goals, registered 118 assists for a total of 199 points.

"Next for the Cleveland Heights resident is her college graduation in May," Cleveland Magazine wrote in a March feature article. "Edwards also has the potential to be drafted into the Professional Women's Hockey League this year."

Spring loose leaf collection begins on April 1st.

Homeowners, if you have leaves that you would like picked up, please rake them to the treelawn. Brush and sticks will be picked up separately from leaf piles and may be 4 feet in length, bundled and tied with twine.

If you do not want leaves picked up, you can post a Leave the Leaves sign which can be purchased from organizations like the Xerces Society, which has helpful content on the benefits of leaving the leaves here.

On May 1, leaves and sticks must be placed in Kraft bags when bag pick-up starts again.

CHPD & Start Right held a successful food drive

Last weekend, Cleveland Heights Police Department (CHPD) and Start Right Church held its bi-annual Fill The Cruiser event at Grocery Outlet in Cleveland Heights, and, as evident from the pictures, there was an outpouring of community support!

Donations of mainly non-perishable food made by individuals filled not only a CHPD cruiser but a passenger van from Start Right. Thanks to all who participated and supported the alleviation of food insecurity. The donated food will be distributed by the food pantry operated by Start Right Church located on Caledonia Avenue, one of two food pantries operating in Cleveland Heights.

City continues to seek input on signs until 3/31

The City of Cleveland Heights is updating its sign regulations and wants to hear from you! Your input will help ensure our zoning code supports local businesses, protects neighborhood character, and reflects what residents value.

March is Women's History Month, which is as local as it is national. Join us in celebrating the women from and in Cleveland Heights who have made a difference, inspired, and trailblazed.

Warrensville Center at Mayfield closed for service line replacement work - detours posted

Cleveland Water has begun work on a Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) on Warrensville Center Road. The work will impact Cleveland Heights, South Euclid, and University Heights. What you can expect:

Warrensville Center Road will be closed in both directions from Mayfield to Bexley roads.
No through traffic is permitted, but if you are a resident whose home is located on Warrensville Center Road in the closed-off area, you will be allowed to access your driveway.
Residents on Oakwood Drive will be allowed to drive the shortest route through the site to access the road.

Police officers will be stationed at each end of the road closure to ensure that those authorized, including residents in the area and roadwork employees, can access the construction zone.

Cleveland Heights and Cedar Lee Theatre will take center stage at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Cleveland International Film Festival, April 9 - 18, with a showcase of films and special events, including post-screening Talk Backs with film directors, actors, and more. Cedar Lee Theatre launched the festival 50 years ago through the initiative of theater operator Jon Foreman and others.

Youth Opportunities

Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) offers exciting opportunities this summer for Cleveland Heights teens looking to earn some money and knowledge alongside local business owners. Y.O.U. is offering paid positions with Cleveland Heights businesses, from mid-June to mid-July, with flexibility to define the type of work their interested in doing.

High School Teens, please apply by May 1.

Cleveland-based Y.O.U. is also looking for businesses in Cleveland Heights who are interested in hosting a Y.O.U. teen this summer. From faith-based groups, non profits organizations, corporations, and everything in between. All costs are covered by Y.O.U.
