Coventry Road is open again to two-way traffic | |

After seven months of major reconstruction, which included repaving and installing new curbs and sewer catch basins, Coventry Road from Fairhill Road to Euclid Heights Boulevard is open again to two-way traffic.
The city would like to thank residents of Coventry and the nearby streets for their patience during the process and the hardworking crews that have completed the $4 million project. Thanks as well to Cuyahoga County for major funding support.

Only families will be admitted to tonight's Heights High School (home) football game | |

The varsity football game on Friday, October 13, will be closed to the general public. Only the families of the Heights High and Euclid High football players, cheerleaders, and marching band members will be allowed to attend.
Who can attend, and what do they need?
- Tickets will only be available to the families of Heights High and Euclid’s football players, cheerleaders, and marching band members.
- Heights High or Euclid students who are guests MUST have their Student ID to enter.
- Middle school and elementary school siblings (and younger) can attend but must be accompanied by and remain with an adult or legal guardian at all times.
Reminders
- Spectators must stay in the bleachers during the game unless they are in line for concession stands.
- There will be no entry after halftime.
- Spectators are not allowed to access the football field before or after the game.
- Parents are asked to pick their children up promptly at the conclusion of the game.

Beginning this week, Ohioans will decide whether to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and to legalize recreational marijuana.
The hot-button issues could drive higher-than-usual voter turnout in the November 7 election, which also includes a participatory budget charter amendment in Cleveland, as well as contests for municipal judges, city council seats, and school boards.
So far in Cuyahoga County, elections officials have processed 43,471 absentee ballot applications, a number that tracks with the higher-than-average voter turnout in August, when voters overwhelmingly rejected Issue 1, which would have made it harder to change the Ohio Constitution.
This time around, Issue 1 is for abortion rights. Issue 2, meanwhile, would change state law to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 years and older while setting up rules for the state to regulate the industry.
We have four weeks until Election Day.

A special message about parking from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections:
The Board of Elections expects a high volume of voters to take advantage of Early In-Person Voting in the November 7, 2023 General Election. To accommodate voters, additional parking has been made available in two parking lots; parking at the Board building will be restricted.
The parking lot located behind the Board of Elections Building, 2925 Euclid Avenue, will be reserved for voters with valid disability license plates or placards and for voters to access the secure ballot drop box.
All other voters will be directed to two nearby parking lots.
One parking lot may be entered from East 30th Street; the other lot may be entered from Chester Avenue. The parking lot entrances are well-marked and are steps away from the Board of Elections building.

Jaycox pens his story of hope; donates proceeds | |

Cleveland Heights resident Kemp Jaycox has published his memoir, A Race Against Time: A Memoir about MS, Love, Loss and Life Lessons. Sales of the book will benefit the Forest Hill Presbyterian Church Environmental Sustainability Fund and the Accelerated Cure Project for MS.
Jaycox, age 50, was busy leading an active life of sports, travel, volunteering, and working in his environmental/ sustainability career. Then, a bout with a stomach virus caused his immune system to overreact, resulting in a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis at the age of 30. Now, 20 years later, in a race against time as his body shuts down and makes the simplest task impossible, he is intent on telling his life story to offer hope to others.

Cleveland Heights Wins Stormwater Awareness Week Challenge | |

Cleveland Heights is the winner of the 2023 Stormwater Awareness Week challenge held by the Cuyahoga County Soil & Water Conservation District. All municipalities encouraged residents to take the storm water pledge (including not dumping oils and solvents down drains and refraining from pesticide use). Of the 85 total pledges made during the week, 35 came from Cleveland Heights residents!
As the winner, Cleveland Heights will receive native tree(s) planted in the community in early November. Thank you to the residents who participated and took the pledge!

Violinist Emily Cornelius has served as concertmaster of the Heights Chamber Orchestra since 2011. An active freelancer and a passionate performer, she is currently a member of the Canton Symphony, the BlueWater Chamber Orchestra, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and the Lancaster Festival Orchestra.

Heights Halloween Festival October 21 | |

Dobama Theatre announced its 3rd annual Heights Halloween Festival, to be held on Saturday, October 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, in the Cedar-Lee District of Cleveland Heights.
Free and open to all ages, the festival includes character meet-n-greet side stages where attendees can get photos, autographs, and candy from costumed actors at various stops in the center of the Cedar Lee Business District.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced that the next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. DEA will again be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs at sites nationwide.
The Cleveland Heights Police Department will again participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Please bring prescription drugs you wish to discard to our drop box in the lobby of the CHPD Headquarters, Cleveland Heights City Hall–Lower Level, 40 Severance Circle.
