Sewer district preps for Lower Shaker Lake spillway inspection by moving native fish downstream + Horseshoe Lake update

From Cleveland.com

In anticipation of Lower Shaker Lake getting a little lower for a spillway inspection the week of Labor Day, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) crews have already relocated as many of the native fish species as possible.

NOTE

Beginning September 5, a contractor for the Northeast Ohio Sewer District, in coordination with the City of Cleveland Heights, will temporarily lower the water level of Lower Lake by 18 inches to conduct a structural inspection of the lake's dam spillway.

Make Your Miles Matter, September 11–24!

When you think of air pollution and climate change, you might imagine factories belching smoke into the sky or trainloads of coal being burnt at power plants. But motor vehicles produce more planet-warming carbon emissions in the U.S. than any other source—28% of the 6,340 million metric tons of CO₂ equivalent produced annually in the U.S. With cars baked into every aspect of our lives, mobile sources of greenhouse gas emissions are a BIG problem.

NOACA, Northeast Ohio’s regional transportation agency, is challenging us to change break our dependency on solo car trips through the GOhio Commuter Challenge. From September 11–24, you can compete to win prizes by replacing drive-alone trips with alternative modes of transportation, including carpooling, vanpooling, transit, biking, walking, or scootering. You then register those trips at GohioCommute.com to track your progress and see the leaderboard.

So, this month, ditch the keys and shake things up a little. Commuting with others is a fun and easy way to save money, lower your stress, and make Ohio a better, cleaner place to live and work.
