MCDOT to Play Key Role in County Climate Action Plan
2021 will be a year of progress in Montgomery County’s fight against climate change. The Draft Climate Action Plan, released for public review and comment in December 2020, highlights the County’s goals to create a more sustainable, healthy and equitable community. In order to meet the goal of cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80% by 2027 and achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2035, MCDOT has been identified as the lead agency in implementing several transportation-related initiatives. Some of the proposed actions include: 
 
  • Expanding public transit service and working with other agencies to convert the entire transit fleet to electric vehicles
  • Expanding pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and the shared micro-mobility network (i.e. bikeshare, e-scooters).
  • Supporting telework and other transportation demand management strategies
  • Implementing congestion pricing and adaptive traffic management systems on a broader basis; limiting the use of cars in certain urban areas

BikeMatch Continues to Accept Donations
County residents, such as Alexis (pictured above) have been enjoying the benefits of the BikeMatch program. 

Bicycles are essential transportation for many, both during the coronavirus outbreak and as routines transition back to “the new normal.” This may include traveling to jobs, running important errands, or participating in mutual aid for vulnerable people who cannot leave their homes. 

BikeMatchMoCo connects people in Montgomery County who have a bike to donate with people who need one. Click here for guidelines and application for donating or receiving a bike!

Ride On Services Increased: See New Route and Schedule Changes
Ride On bus schedule changes have been in effect since February 28, 2021. In an effort to provide services to an increased passenger demand, Ride On and Ride On extRa services have been increased to nearly 80% of pre-pandemic levels.

In addition to this change, there will be several route design changes due to housing development and community input. See the affected routes here. 

Passengers are still encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines and use facial coverings for the entirety of their ride. Bus interiors continue to be thoroughly disinfected and cleaned twice daily. We appreciate all efforts to keep our community safe.

Ride the Flash: MCDOT’s Premium Transportation Service
Have you gotten to ride the Flash? MCDOT’s newest bus service gets you where you need to go quickly. Enjoy a comfortable and reliable ride including WiFi and USB charging ports, level boarding for larger accessibility, bike racks and unique stations with weather protection, pre-payment stations, and real-time transit information.

Flash operates on Colesville Road/ Columbia Pike (US 29) and Lockwood Drive, with destinations including downtown Silver Spring, Four Corners, White Oak, Fairland, and Burtonsville.

Provide Feedback for Metro’s 2022 Fiscal Year
The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically impacted Metro’s ridership since 2020, leading to significant budget shortfalls that have disrupted Metro’s services. For the 2022 fiscal year (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022), Metro is facing difficult decisions to remain under budget. For this reason, funds need to be allocated to what matters most to riders, so your input is highly valuable. 

There are many ways you can provide your feedback to Metro: take a survey, upload a letter or submit comments here by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Your input will be highly appreciated for Metro to provide the best service possible.
