Thank you for joining us for the Finding the Right Trees for the Right Place: Climate Adaptation Short Course

We're looking forward to seeing you at our first session this Friday, October 1st, at 1pm EST.

Sessions will run for 1.5 hours. Connection information for the course is included below.

Course Schedule and Connection Information

This short course is designed for teams of professionals or seasoned volunteers working with conservation groups in Connecticut and neighboring states. Participants will consider how to integrate climate adaptation planning into the stewardship work of their organization. Individual participants can be accommodated.

Understanding climate change impacts and vulnerabilities in your area

Session 3: Week of October 11

Self-study, field activity, and bonus tour of Hoffman Preserve, an Avalonia Land Conservancy Property

Completing the Adaptation Workbook for your selected property

Session 4: Friday, October 22, 1:00-2:30pm EST

Live virtual session

Sharing of of adaptation projects and course wrap-up

Office hours: Optional but highly encouraged - 30-minute timeslots with course instructors will be available throughout the course. Details to come in the next course email.

Course Goals

Identify locally important climate change impacts, challenges, and opportunities.
Understand a step-by-step process for considering climate change and carbon in land stewardship and management.
Develop actions to help a specific natural area adapt to changing conditions.
Communicate with stakeholders about climate impacts and adaptation responses

We will use the Adaptation Quick Guide for Land Trusts throughout this course. The guide draws on the five-step Adaptation Workbook process to help you design and implement adaptation actions in your work, with a special eye toward stewardship activities.

Climate Change Science and Modeling: What You Need to Know

If you're a little rusty on the basics of climate change and need a refresher, we'd recommend this self-paced 15-20 minute tutorial. It goes through some of the basic principles of climate science and how it impacts those of us working in conservation and natural resources management.
