ESF Wins Grant for New Climate Change Exchange Program

Faculty at ESF, in collaboration with faculty at Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (UAO) in Colombia, won a 100,000 Strong in the Americas grant for their proposed Climate Action research project and student exchange program “Communicating Just Rural Transitions in the Americas.”


Co-led by Dr. Theresa Selfa, professor of Environmental Studies, and Dr. Renata Moreno, UAO and ESF Ph.D. 2016 alumna, the project will engage undergraduate students in learning, researching, and communicating about just energy transitions.

ESF Researchers Receive $546,000 Grant

Researchers at ESF were awarded $546,000 to develop a tool to enhance the environmental impact analysis of wood products harvested in New York state.


Tool for Assessing Carbon Storing Materials (TACSMA) is one of seven projects funded as part of the Natural Carbon Solutions Innovation Challenge. The joint effort is led by ESF faculty and the Consortium for Research on Renewable Industrial Materials (CORRIM). The project focuses on "carbon-storing materials," which are mainly plant-based materials that capture and store carbon dioxide from the air for long periods.

Dr. Stephen Shaw Named ERE Chair

Dr. Stephen Shaw was appointed chair of ESF’s Department of Environmental Resources Engineering, effective July 1. Shaw is a full professor who has been recognized with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching for his interactive, problem-based inquiry methods. His colleagues have commented on how generous he is in giving time to support his students, his peers, and his professional community.

ESF Students Named to New SUNY Climate Corps

Three ESF students are among the inaugural class of paid student interns from the SUNY Climate Corps Internship Program. Thirty-six SUNY students from eight campuses were selected for immersive, real-life work experiences in research and policy at state agencies with environmental and sustainability missions and SUNY System Administration.
