Sermon:
"Climbing Mountains"
Sacred Text:
From the book of Hebrews
| | A Word from Rev. Lorraine | | |
The reading this week is from the book of Hebrews. Traditionally this book has been attributed to Paul. However, scholars are now saying that the writing style is not Paul's style. The real author continues to be a mystery. Throughout the book, it shows the differences between the Old and New Testaments.
The reading this week speaks of two different kinds of mountains. It speaks of Mt. Sinai and Mt. Zion. Mt. Sinai is expressed as dark, fearful, and unapproachable. Mt. Zion is the city of the Living God who is light, filled with angels and very approachable.
All of us have to climb some mountains in our lives, whether it's about the darkness of sickness, financial problems, family agreements or even the death of a loved one. Our lives sometimes cause us to live in great fear. Is that the mountain we want to climb? A climb filled with fear and darkness or do we want to the same climb filled with hope and trusting in God?
I hope you'll join us this week and dig into this climb a little more.
Blessings,
Rev. Lorraine
