Stewardship 2021:
Climbing the Sycamore Tree
This year's financial stewardship emphasis will highlight the story of Zacchaeus's encounter with Jesus. This story is often told to children in the church. Yet, it has important principles for adults to consider. Our theme this year is "Climbing the Sycamore Tree."
Vision Sunday is November 15 and Commitment Sunday is November 22. A letter with a commitment card will be sent out by mail prior to Commitment Sunday.
Below is a message from Mary Jo Breckenridge on the subject of stewardship.
"We joined SJBC in 1967, when I was 10 years old. My mother was a 'stay at home' mom and had a household account from daddy to manage a home with five children. Each month they both sat down and wrote a check to fulfill their stewardship pledges. 'Why did they each have a pledge?' was always my thought. As I grew older and more active in church activities, I understood this more. Each of them had great interests in the church and its ministries. Among other things, Daddy was active in the actual building and grounds aspect and mom was active in, well, everything. To them, their financial contribution was a fulfillment, not only of their covenant with God, but with the covenant of SJBC. It was their privilege to make sure the church had the financial support to fulfill its ministries, take care of its staff and physical building and grounds.
Their dedication to and financial support of SJBC has served as a good example to me throughout my life. We give, not only to honor God, but to acknowledge our heritage, fulfill the covenant, show love for SJBC, its ministers, staff, building, grounds and servant ministries both in our community and those farther away."

Jubilee Store 2020
November 21-22, 2020
As you may remember in the past, St. John’s has partnered with Charlotte Family Housing to host the Jubilee Store. In years past, families were able to shop at a store held inside our doors to ensure they had gifts for the holidays.
This year, Jubilee store will look a little different. Instead of “shopping” inside our church, they will drive through our parking lot on November 21 and 22 and can purchase gift cards at a reduced rate to buy gifts for their children. Families will also receive a Food Lion gift card for a holiday meal, a basket with holiday goodies, and supplies for wrapping gifts. We are partnering with Myers Park Presbyterian, Myers Park Methodist, and Charlotte Family Housing to make Jubilee Store happen.
We are currently collecting donations to go toward this effort and would love your financial support to make the Jubilee Store a success this year. You can donate via Realm here or by check made out to SJBC with "Jubilee Store" in the memo field.
Here is a breakdown of how your donations can help:
- $25 – gift wrap supplies for one family
- $50 – holiday meal for one family
- $100 – gifts for two children
As with years past, we will also need volunteers to help on these days. Volunteers will help with check-in assistant, gift basket runners, and traffic control. All volunteers will be outside during their shifts and on their feet for the majority of the time.
If you would like to volunteer, you can sign up here. You have to make an account with their volunteer website to sign up. Please note that volunteers must be 18 years old and undergo a background check.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to Kelli McCombs at kellieklund@gmail.com or 704 796 3033. Thank you!

Create Your Realm Account
Over the past 6 months we have been implementing our new church database, Realm, to not only manage our church data but also improve our communications and engagement. We have had many of you complete your personal log-in and begin to use the available tools and resources.
As of now we still have over 200 persons who have been invited but not yet logged in. It is important for every member or attendee of St. John’s who is able to participate with Realm. In the coming weeks you will receive important giving and contribution information via Realm and also have the opportunity to make your upcoming pledge online. If you have not received an email invitation to join Realm, it is possible we do not have your correct contact information.
If you need assistance with setting up your profile please contact Derek or Mallory.
