This webinar will explore the key differences between providing clinical services as a licensed social worker and offering personal coaching services that fall outside the scope of professional licensure. Participants will learn how to distinguish between the two roles, understand the legal implications of each, and identify practical steps to structure a compliant coaching practice, if desired, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Participant Objectives:

  • Differentiate between activities that constitute clinical social work and those that may be offered as non-clinical coaching.
  • Identify applicable Connecticut licensure and business laws and standards relevant to clinical vs. coaching work.
  • Recognize the legal and professional risks of providing clinical services outside the licensed scope of practice.
  • Describe best practices for marketing, contracting, and documenting coaching services to avoid confusion with psychotherapy.
  • Develop strategies to maintain clear boundaries and transparency when transitioning between or offering both types of services.
