Call for Applications: KL2 Scholars

The KL2 Clinical Scholars Program provides research and career development support from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) for junior faculty engaged in clinical research.

The two-year program, funded as part of our recent NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), offers 75% salary support, customized training, and mentorship. The goal is to give scholars time and resources to develop their research and be ready to transition into independently funded scientists.

There have been two prior KL2 scholar classes, and we are now seeking our 2023 scholars. Apply by June 12 for funding expected to begin in mid-September.

Current KL2 Scholars: Eric B. Ortigoza, M.D., Cherise R. Chin Fatt, Ph.D., Yuanyuan Zhang, M.D., Ph.D.,

Kimberly Goodspeed, M.D., M.S.C.S., Samuel McDonald, M.D., M.S., and Srinivas Chivukula, M.D., Ph.D.

From K to Research Independence

The K to Research Independence Program is designed to support faculty who have successfully obtained a career development award in their quest for R01 grant approval.

Funded by the Clinical Researcher Academy, the new program provides faculty with the support needed to successfully deliver the objectives of their award, while also developing and writing for an R01 grant.

As part of the program, faculty will have access to:

  • Mentorship – One-on-one meetings with an individual program committee to discuss research development.
  • Research Sessions – Virtual discussions to present research ideas and goals to a panel of experts who will provide feedback on merit and feasibility.
  • Grant Development Work Plan – Includes a monthly project blueprint, a success tracker, and a toolbox developed to facilitate planning and reporting.
  • Executive Coaching – One-on-one sessions to focus on management, effective problem-solving skills, areas for development, emotional intelligence, and wellbeing.
  • K to R Retreat and Workshops – Intensive grant writing and skills training for independent researchers.
