Matthew Abramowitz, MD, MS, has been named Director of the Einstein-Montefiore Biomarker Analytic Research Core and Biorepository Core of the ICTR. Dr. Abramowitz is a longstanding user of the BARC/BioR services for supporting clinical & translational research. His research focuses on the effects of chronic kidney disease on skeletal muscle physiology and physical function, and has been funded by the ICTR, the American Society of Nephrology, and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Abramowitz was recently awarded a $3.5 million R01 grant from the NIH to study mechanisms of physical function decline in patients with kidney disease. The grant will fund a 5-year study to investigate alterations in the skeletal muscle of adults with kidney disease and the changes that occur after patients start dialysis. This study has the potential to influence the care of patients with kidney failure and to shed light on the causes of functional impairment in this population. Dr. Abramowitz is an Associate Professor in the department of Medicine (Nephrology).

The ICTR has promoted Jeff LaFleur MA as the new Translational Core Director for the Biomarker Analytic Research Core and the Biorepository, both directed by Dr. Matthew Abramowitz. Jeff was previously the Translational Core Administrator and prior to joining the ICTR, Jeff's experience at Einstein-Montefiore included a position with the Almo Laboratory/Macromalecular therapeutics facility (Biochemistry) and with the Cancer Center. Life Course Research Toolkit |
|
Life course research embraces the complexity of health and disease development, tackling the interactions between genetics and the environment over a lifetime. Recent advances in computational analytics, computer science, and data collection allow for the integration of a “life course” theoretical framework and complexity science for understanding health and development across the lifespan.
The Center for Clinical and Translational Science Award Life Course Working Group has designed six webinars as part of a webinar series, Charting the Life Course: an Interdisciplinary Blueprint as the foundation to a visual life course research toolkit that will introduce investigators to conducting life course research with complexity science.

Inclusion of Older Adults in Clinical Research Workshop |

The Research Centers Collaborative Network in partnership with the CTSA Working Group on Inclusion of Older Adults as a Model of Special Populations has created a workshop, Inclusion of Older Adults in Clinical Research. This library of PowerPoint slides and other presentation materials is intended to serve as a resource for persons delivering presentations aiming to heighten and facilitate older adult inclusion in clinical and translational research. Innovation Biodesign Training Program |
|
The Montefiore Einstein Innovation Leadership Team is excited to announce a call for applications for the Innovation Biodesign Training Program’s 2022-2023 cycle. This one-year program is a unique experience to train the next generation of physician innovators and encourages the development and validation of digital health technologies. This initiative is only the sixth Innovation Biodesign Training Program in the U.S. and the first to focus on chronic conditions and health disparities. Attending physicians and residents and fellows in the research training year are encouraged to apply. Training will begin on July 1, 2022.
This program’s curriculum (approximately 3-4 hours per week) includes: a Health Technology Innovation seminar series and small group sessions; a ‘clinical immersion’ experience; a technology-oriented scholarly project; and mentoring from Montefiore Einstein faculty and external experts. An upcoming workshop, All About Cayuse: Portals for Grant Proposal Development, Routing and Submission, will take place on December 8th from 10-11am. This interactive zoom workshop will provide user guidance for our recently upgraded Cayuse grant submission portal. It is open to trainees at all career levels, faculty members and administrators. The presentations will include live demonstration of the software and clarify the specific roles and significance of Cayuse SP and Proposals 424 in proposal development, mandatory routing for internal approval and submission.
