Creating Connections is an in-person workshop designed to help scientists, researchers, and health professionals learn to engage and inspire diverse audiences through effective communication. This is a free training intended to provide an introduction to the “Alda Method” of communications and is a pre-requisite for more specialized workshops to be offered in the future.

Registration is required to attend and space is limitedClick here to register for this event.

This event is brought to you by the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research in collaboration with the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University. Please direct questions to [email protected].

Translational Science Seminar Series January 17th

The first Translational Science Seminar Series will begin on January 17th 2024 at 12pm in Price 251. This event is sponsored by the ICTR and Pilot Projects Program.

Featuring presentations by current Pilot Project Awardees:

Jean Hebert, PhD

A General Cell-Based Approach for Overcoming the Blood-Brain-Barrier to Treat Brain Diseases

Gaetano Santulli, MD, PhD

Implementation Science Grand Rounds January 31st

The next Implementation Science Grand Rounds, sponsored by the ICTR Health Research Implementation Core will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, January 31st at 1pm featuring Dr. Jason Adelman from Columbia University.

Dr. Adelman is Associate Dean for Quality and Patient Safety, Director of the Center for Patient Safety Science, Program Director of the Patient Safety Research Fellowship, Vice Chair for Quality & Patient Safety, Department of Medicine, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and System Associate Chief Quality Officer for Patient Safety & Learning Health System Science, NewYork-Presbyterian. Dr. Adelman is a hospitalist by training, and pursued patient safety after becoming aware of the sometimes catastrophic medical errors that occur in the hospital environment. In his current role he oversees quality and patient safety operations at CUIMC, including managing a large team of physicians, nurses, quality and patient safety specialists, and lean engineers in hospital-wide quality improvement efforts. Funding and Training Opportunities

Funding Opportunity: ICTR Translational Science Pilot Awards

The Pilot Project Program of the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) of the Einstein Montefiore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) invites all Einstein Montefiore faculty to apply for pilot funding to support Translational Science projects. Projects supported by this program must address a translational roadblock and meet the definition of translational science researchYou can learn more about translational science research here. Applications are due January 31st, 2024.

For the application to be considered, the PI MUST have a 1:1 consultation with the Pilot Program Directors or have attended the Translational Science Town Hall meeting on December 5th prior to submission.

Questions may be directed to CTSA Pilot Project Program leaders, Sofiya Milman, MD, [email protected] and Sylvia Suadicani, PhD, [email protected] or the ICTR Administrative Director, Ms. Elizabeth Castro [email protected].

Applications for K12 Mentored Career Development Awards Available

Applications for the K12 Mentored Clinical and Translational Research Career Development Awards are available now. These research career development awards, funded under a K12 mechanism, are sponsored by a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the NIH and the Einstein Montefiore Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR). Each award will provide support for junior faculty (Instructor or Assistant Professor) with doctoral degrees who will devote the majority of their effort to clinical or translational research and training for 2 to 3 years. Only applicants whose research and career development plans emphasize translational research will be considered.

Applications are due February 12th, 2024. To view the call for applications, click here.

Administrative questions should be addressed to Ms. Nancy Marte, [email protected] or 718-430-4008. Programmatic questions should be addressed to Dr. Marla Keller, [email protected] or (718) 430-3240.

Clinical Research Training Program Applications Due March 1st

The Einstein Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP) is funded by the NIH under the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and will be accepting applications January 1st through March 1st 2024.

This 2-year program consists of a didactic curriculum, emphasizing epidemiology, biostatistics, data analysis, grant writing, and research ethics; and a faculty mentored experience in clinical research, leading to the preparation of a thesis. Scholars successfully completing this program will earn a Master of Science in Clinical Research Methods.

There are expanded course offerings for research methodologies across the translational spectrum in:

·         Population & Clinical Sciences

·         Patient Centered Outcomes Research

·         Bench to Bedside Translational Research

CRTP scholars are drawn from all of Einstein’s medical specialties and subspecialties, including those interested in clinical investigation across the entire translational research spectrum, from mechanistic studies to population-based and health services research. The comprehensive program combines didactic learning and coursework with a mentored research experience.

We invite all qualified candidates to apply to the CRTP program beginning January 1st. If you are unsure if you should apply, contact the CRTP office for guidance. For more information and to apply, click here. For questions, please contact [email protected].

Applications to PhD in Clinical Investigation Program due April 1st

The PhD in Clinical Investigation (PCI) is offered as a concentration for predoctoral PhD students enrolled in Einstein’s graduate division and for M.D./Ph.D. students in Einstein’s Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). The PCI's program goal is to provide novel, innovative, and forward-looking pre-doctoral training for biomedical investigators seeking to develop careers in translational science, creating new knowledge to help promote human health and prevent or treat disease.

Applications to the PCI are available and due April 1st. Qualified applicants can find more information about pursuing a PhD in Clinical Investigation through the Einstein Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences, or the Medical Scientist Training Program/MSTP.
