Matthew is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and holds a Masters of Psychology from The University of West Georgia. He has a Bachelor's in Psychology from Oglethorpe University. He originally began studying Philosophy, earning a Master's Degree from Warwick University in England. This work focused on the overlap between Philosophy, Psychology, and Spirituality in the works of thinkers such as Freud, Nietzsche, and Heidegger. These interests led him to the practice of yoga, culminating in his certification as an instructor at the 200 hour level through Kashi ashraam in Atlanta. A key component of this training was involvement in various service programs, including feeding the homeless. The powerful effects on his own heart resulting from this work led very naturally into interest in a career as a therapist. He began working as a therapist in 2015 and has been working at Substance Abuse treatment centers since February of that year and in a private practice setting since 2017. Philosophy, Mindfulness, and Spirituality are core components of his approach. Matthew has facilitated Mindfulness for Addiction and Yoga for Trauma groups, and is beginning a new open process group in the Fall.
His resume includes working in a variety of settings with clients ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. Some of his work experience includes:
- Providing individual and group therapy in the Opioid Treatment Program at Southside Medical Center
- Working with individuals and couples in a Private Practice setting at Pathways Center for Psychotherapy
- Providing individual and group therapy for dual diagnosis clients at Alliance Recovery Center
- Leading Mindfulness groups for addiction and trauma at Alliance Recovery Center
- Volunteering with the homeless through Kashi Atlanta’s Street Meals program
- Volunteering with Veterans through the Just Listening program
Matthew formed his own LLC in 2017 and was happy to join Perimeter Therapy Associates, LLC in 2018.

Survivors of trauma—whether abuse, accidents, or war—can end up profoundly wounded, betrayed by their bodies that failed to get them to safety and that are a source of pain. In order to fully heal from trauma, a connection must be made with oneself, including one’s body. The trauma-sensitive yoga described in this book moves beyond traditional talk therapies that focus on the mind...

Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent over three decades working with survivors. In
The Body Keeps the Score
, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.
