The 10 Most Hotly Anticipated Superyachts Hitting the Seas This Year
The upcoming year promises to be an exciting time for the yachting industry, with new design trends, fresh materials, and advances in eco-friendly propulsion systems already shaping the fleet.
As many yacht owners’ appetites for adventure grows and the explorer market continues to boom, we can see a trend for expedition-style features with long range, increased food storage, and rough-and-ready exteriors all becoming increasingly popular. On the other side of the spectrum, there’s been a resurgence in slightly retro or traditionally styled yachts, with some designers stepping away from uber-contemporary plumb bows and modern superstructures.

In Review: The Most Expensive Superyacht Sales of 2024
A lack of inventory, persistent inflation and a general air of uncertainty relating to the US Presidential election all contributed to a decline in brokerage yacht sales this year compared to 2023. With respect to this year's 10 most expensive sales, BOATPro indicates the total amout secured fell 52.8 percent from €1.51 billion in 2023 to €711.9 million in 2024.

Who's Next to Carry the Boat Baton?
The industry faces an undeniable problem. The talent pool is shallow for crew and those handling the intricate work needed on shore. With low retention rates and ongoing skilled labour shortages, the issue of recruitment is more pressing than ever. However, we seem to be reluctant to adapt our hiring practices, still relying heavily on insular networks and familiar circles. By doing so, we’re overlooking young people with great potential from less traditional backgrounds.
While the need for talent has never been greater, there’s been little serious effort to diversify where we look for recruits. Beyond the usual networks of coastal towns and those already familiar with the sea, an untapped pool of young people from urban, non-coastal areas could bring fresh energy and dedication to the industry. For many of these young people, high-paying vocational careers in yachting could offer a natural alternative to university, especially when the cost of higher education is at an all-time high and student debt is often crushing.

EU's Cleaner Marine Fuel Rules Are Inflationary, Shipbroker Says
European Union marine fuel rules, effective from Jan. 1 as part of efforts to cut emissions, will raise shipping costs, although firms with vessels that can run on alternative fuels, such as biodiesel and LNG, will benefit, two shipbrokers said.
The policy is the second major EU regulation focused on cutting the shipping industry's carbon emissions in as many years. Shipping transports over 80% of all traded goods and causes nearly 3% of greenhouse gas emissions.
