A Note From Rick Corwon
Every day for the last fifteen years I start with at least a glance at Babe Ruth’s 1940 quote:  “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.”

You may not be a fan of Ruth, of baseball itself, or perhaps you subscribe to the famed curse of the Bambino. But you have to appreciate the hall of famer’s ethic and attitude. It did, after all, produce some amazing results.

As we prepare our organizations’ budgets, our strategies, and look with optimism to 2022, I can’t help but reflect on the healthcare ecosystem’s adoption of that same spirit.
You, our treasured hospital information technology clients, have weathered quite a storm. We’ve seen the ravages of security threats like ransomware and worked together to beat it back. We’ve both quickly adopted technology that keep us in touch as well as able to jointly deliver world-class support to hospital employees. You’ve asked us to help you transition to the safety net of cloud solutions that are both economically advantageous and exceptionally scalable. We’ve all formed new partnerships, friendships, and business relationships…many of us from the initially awkward - and now normal - basement home office.

As we step forward again its wonderful that we’re finally getting back to seeing each other. We’re starting to attend industry conferences to explore new technologies, services, and solutions. We’re joining you in workshops and white board sessions that cement healthcare IT departments as the big problem solvers. We can shake hands, fist bump, or elbow bump again when we conclude an important in-person meeting.

We are looking forward to the next level of improvements we will construct together. On behalf of CloudWave, we’re excited to help you develop and execute your next big strategy.

It is with this backdrop that I say thank you. Thank you for the heroic things you do. Thank you for relentlessly improving the IT systems our families depend on when we need our own healthcare services. Thank you for your business and collaboration with CloudWave. And thank you for never giving up.

CloudWave In The Media
CloudWave, the largest independent cloud and managed services software hosting provider in healthcare, announced the company has recently launched OpSus Cloud Services with seven additional healthcare institutions—bringing its total number of hospitals and healthcare organizations to more than 200.

Before HLTH 2021, HIT Consultant compiled predictions including CloudWave’s Jim Fitzgerald:

“In a massive reduction of risk and waste, as well as a major wave of potential economic empowerment, ownership of the personal health record will move from steward organizations like healthcare providers and payors back to the patient."

CloudWave announced that its OpSus Cloud Services are in compliance with the Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) Service Organization Controls 1 (SOC 1) Type 2 and SOC 2 plus HITRUST.

Imagining Forward – The Personal Health Record

The classic Robert Frost poem “The Road Not Taken” grounds the reader experientially in the vivid reality of a bracing fall walk in the woods in New England while at the same time inviting daydreaming speculation on the paths and consequences of our choices. The analogy to our industry works well. As an experienced woodsman, Frost knew that yellow leaves fell in the fall from Alder and Birch trees, which were always the first trees to grow back after a forest fire or some other harrowing. If you think of the constant change in our industry we are always walking amidst stands of a new “yellow wood” as opposed to older oaks or maples with red and orange fall leaves.

January 1 Deadline for MFA
We ask that all existing OpSus Live customers implement an MFA solution by January 1, 2022.

MFA is a critical component of our overall security strategy at OpSus, and we have made it mandatory for OpSus Live customers to test and implement a MFA solution by the new year.

MFA is proven to prevent password-based cybercrime, and defends against phishing attempts, keylogging attacks, hacking threats, and more.

As a Sr. Cloud Systems Management Engineer for CloudWave, Reba works every day to manage and improve overall systems monitoring for customers. She defines KPIs for monitoring across a spectrum of technologies and is the technical liaison for CloudWave’s Infrastructure Management Vendor all while helping other team members with scripting. Her motto “One band – one sound” serves her customers well.

Before coming to CloudWave in 2017, Reba spent 13 years as an Implementation Consultant focusing on Infrastructure Management and Change Management for a wide range of customers like AIG, Samsung-Korea, DHHS, US DOT, CA-AJP Sydney, CA-AJP Singapore, Earthlink, EchoStar, FAA, HBO, Inacom, Insight, Internap, MGM Resorts, Northwestern Mutual and QTS.

“I love helping people and solving problems” she claims.

Reba doesn’t just help solve infrastructure problems. When FEMA declares natural disasters for regions hit hard by hurricane winds, Reba is deployed by Operation Blue Roof, an emergency response managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Their mission? Tarping damaged roofs due to hurricanes in order to protect homes. From behind a computer, Reba has designed, managed, and operated the database-driven system that manages people, resources, and work orders through Hurricanes Katrina, Ike, Gustav, Wilma, and Michael.

She’s taught Computer Programming at the New England Institute of Technology as well as Sunday School where they refer to her as “Tee Reba”. Not to mention managing the church website and media team.

Reba has worked on every continent except Antarctica and has 23 siblings. Yes, 23.
“With all those siblings, I learned to be a great Cajun cook and die-hard Saints fan.”
