Beginners

Denise Levertov

But we have only begun

To love the earth.

We have only begun

To imagine the fullness of life.

How could we tire of hope?

— so much is in bud.

How can desire fail?

— we have only begun

to imagine justice and mercy,

only begun to envision

how it might be

to live as siblings with beast and flower,

not as oppressors.

Surely our river

cannot already be hastening

into the sea of nonbeing?

Surely it cannot

drag, in the silt,

all that is innocent?

Not yet, not yet —

there is too much broken

that must be mended,

too much hurt we have done to each other

that cannot yet be forgiven.

We have only begun to know

the power that is in us if we would join

our solitudes in the communion of struggle.

So much is unfolding that must

complete its gesture,

so much is in bud.

Has Easter really come and gone? The Church answers a resounding no! After all, while all of the bunnies may have hopped away and the Easter candy have been eaten, the Church declares that the goodness of Easter can't be confined to one day. No, we have 50 days of Easter, lasting until Pentecost! And even then, we have a whole life-time of Alleluias to sing beyond that. Denise Levertov's poem captures the sense of how Easter is just the beginning of the work we have to do.

For Parents, Guardians, and Other Caregivers

We all know that the digital world? It's like the Wild West. It's worth venture into it's depths, yes. But there's danger out there. There are things that we should know. And this is especially true when it comes to children and youth.

This Thursday, April 9 at 9:00 am PACT is hosting a Digital Safety Workshop. Come be a part of this important event.

RSVP to Jeanne Ackerman at jeanne@pactfacmily.org.

Sunday School is Back This Week!

EYC Sunday School

Join us at 9:30 am in the EYC room for highs & lows, pray, and conversation!

Christ is risen!

Christ is risen, indeed! Alleluia!

On Sunday, we celebrated Jesus' resurrection and our resounding hope!

But it does beg the question: "What is resurrection for?"

Like, is it primarily about immortality? Hope that we might live forever?

Yes, what is resurrection for? It's a good question. And one that we will consider together in our gatherings in the weeks ahead.

In the meantime, think about it with your family and friends. And then? Please share your thoughts with me!

VBS Volunteers Meeting Sunday, April 12 following Holy Eucharist, Rite II

Join us this Sunday immediately following Holy Eucharist, Rite II for a look at everything that will happen during the Best Week of the Summer (i.e., VBS week!). Sign up for your preferred work area, to help decorate, and more! Read more about VBS and pre-sign up to help below!

Inspired by the lives of saints like Francis and Martin or Tours and Therese and Catherine, St. John’s Hero Academy VBS invites children to consider how following Jesus’ call to love and serve others is the most heroic thing of all. Children will create projects in the Hero Maker Design Studio, play high-energy games in the Gamer’s Gauntlet, hear stories of the faithful in the Hero Archives, and relax with a treat or two and the Holy Hero Caf?. All the while, they will discover that we can indeed serve like the saints!

This year, we are partnering with the 3rd Street Boys and Girls Club once more and hope to show God’s love and care to even more children than last year! But this means that WE NEED YOUR HELP! IF you would like to volunteer to help with VBS, read the volunteer descriptions HERE. Then sign up next to your desired work area with your name and availability HERE.
