Historian Carl Schulkin
Carl Schulkin grew up in Merrick, New York, a suburb of New York City on the south shore of Long Island. After graduating from high school, he studied History at Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island, graduating in 1964 with an A.B. degree. He went to graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Ph D. in Modern European History in 1973. Unable to find a full-time job as a college professor, he became a high school history teacher at a private college preparatory school in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Schulkin taught there for 35 years, and, for the final 20 years of his career, he also served as a college counselor. After retiring in 2009, he moved to Laguna Niguel, where he joined the Laguna Niguel Historical Society, the OC Writers Group and the Brown Club of Orange County. Mr. Schulkin designed and currently maintains the website of the Laguna Niguel Historical Society, and has been researching and writing about the history of our community. He will be providing a presentation on the Chet Holifield Federal Building.
