The Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) Board of Directors voted on February 6, 2025, to elect Dr. Joanne Piccininni to the board as a representative of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). Dr. Piccininni replaces Richard Ellis, MSEDM, NRP, whose term concluded.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joanne to the board,” said Dr. Michael J. Souter, CoAEMSP board chair. “She is passionate about EMS education, generally, and the value of accreditation specifically. She brings a valuable set of skills to the organization, and we look forward to leveraging her expertise for the benefit of our programs and the field at large.”

Joanne Piccininni, EdD, NRP, MICP, has spent thirty years in various roles within the EMS community, currently serving as program director of the Paramedic Science Program at Bergen Community College in New Jersey. Throughout her career, she has worked in areas of curriculum development, accreditation, program management, and instruction. In 2023, she received the NAEMT Presidential Leadership Award, which recognizes individuals for their outstanding leadership.

“I am excited to collaborate with a diverse group of professionals who share a common commitment to ensuring excellence in EMS education,” said Dr. Piccininni. “I am particularly interested in supporting EMS programs in meeting accreditation standards, improving the quality of education, and ultimately enhancing patient care through well-trained EMS professionals.”

The CoAEMSP Board of Directors also expressed gratitude for Mr. Ellis’ 11 years of service. “Rick has been an extraordinary board colleague, and his many contributions have and will continue to serve the field of paramedic education,” said Dr. Souter.
