Program Directors

Update the Program's Minimum Expectation Statement

The 2023 CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions, which went into effect on January 1, 2024, modified the minimum expectations statement Paramedic programs must have:

“To prepare Paramedics who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.”  

The minimum expected program goal stated in the CAAHEP Standards must be published verbatim in the program information. The published program goal will appear in the program promotional materials, student handbook, advisory committee minutes, and other areas.

Although programs are welcome to have additional goals, they may not add or subtract wording from the full statement of the minimum expected goal. If additional goals are added, each goal must be measured accordingly. The minimum expected program goal (and any additional goals) must be approved by the program Medical Director and endorsed by the program Advisory Committee on an annual basis.

CoAEMSP Visits with Maryland Council of Nationally Accredited Educational Programs

Dr. George Hatch, Executive Director, and Dr. Mike Miller, Assistant Director, met with the Maryland Council of Nationally Accredited Educational Programs, March 8, 2024. An invitation was extended by Kyle Bates, Paramedic Program Director at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Attendees participated virtually. During the 90-minute session, topics of conversation were wide ranging including the revised CAAHEP Standards that were effective January 1, 2024, self-study report preparation, questions regarding site visit preparation, and other Q&A.
