AI Should Amplify Your Judgment, Not Replace It

Recently, the College of Business hosted an AI Orientation event, bringing together more than 70 students and 11 student leaders for an engaging and insightful experience. Check out some of the key takeaways students shared from their experience:

  • AI can sound confident and still be wrong. Students caught errors in calculations, break-even analysis, costs, budgets, and assumptions during the session.
  • Verification is becoming a core business skill. After the session, 98.1% of respondents said they expected to usually or always check AI-generated answers before using them.
  • Don’t outsource your thinking. One student captured the message particularly well: “Think for yourself, don’t let AI think for you.”
  • The best AI users challenge the output. Students identified checking accuracy, finding mistakes, evaluating credibility, and questioning AI responses as particularly valuable parts of the experience.
  • AI literacy goes beyond ChatGPT skills. Students wanted to learn more about better prompting, selecting the right AI tool, and applying AI to areas such as auditing, careers, and other business activities.

Missed the first event? Don’t worry! We are planning another opportunity on Friday, October 23. Mark your calendar and be on the lookout for more information on Handshake, BeInvolved, and the CoBConnections.
