A Plática and Virtual Healing Circle with Cultural Practitioner
Friday, March 26, 2021.
Cultural ways to remain grounded, healthy, resilient, and connected.
In Curanderismo, a heart-to-heart talk (Plática) is the place where one’s heart is safe to have a compassionate and open conversation. Where we are in circle with friends, colleagues, and family. We bring back the saying "Estás en confianza”. In this virtual circle, we will share insights, ideas, worries, and remembrances of customs set aside as a result of colonialism, the demands of academia, and the dominant narrative.
How do we, educators, counselors, and leaders, strengthen our own resiliency?
As detribalized Indigenous People what do we remember or need to learn about our culture and customs so that we better serve students?
La cultura cura (culture heals) is a phrase often used today as a way of acknowledging that the cultural and spiritual practices of our ancestors that we once turned away, are now recognized as having a profound positive effect on our mental health and wellness. Our CoCEAL circle will conclude with a closing ceremony.
