Dear COCEAL Familia,

I write to you all with heaviness in my heart, expressing all the sentiments many of us here in Colorado and beyond are experiencing. Today is an extra heavy day for us all, for our students, and our fellow colleagues across the nation. The 2024 Presidential Election results have shaken many things in us and around us and we do not know what will happen next. I want to acknowledge and normalize our feelings and emotions - whatever they may be - because we are human and can only control so much.

We urge you to protect your peace today, tomorrow, and in the following years to come. Do what you need for yourself. Reach out to one another. Create your own space for what you need. Let COCEAL know how we can support you or your students, in any space, and we will come together as we always have to continue building community. The election results are not a representation of who we are, who our students are, or the purpose of our work. Let us find the fuel and ganas to fight back and protect ourselves and our students.

COCEAL leadership will be working together to figure out how to best move forward in this landscape; and how we can continue the fight for justice for our fellow Colorado educators and students. We will continue our work and advance our mission and vision for statewide educational success. Know that we are dedicated to advancing the work forward and continuing our cultural practice of community, now more than ever during this upheaval.

The work continues. We woke up today not knowing what would happen, and as difficult as it is, we now must live today with what we know. One thing is for certain, and this we all know, but we are together on this journey. We wake up together, ready to enfrentar another day together. Our gente y comunidad is beautiful. A close friend and colleague shared with us yesterday, "We've got each other...we control the love and care we give and receive." Let's continue this familia.

Together let us move forward, grow, and persevere as we have throughout our histories and experiences. We have always been here, are here now, and we will remain.
