SCRIPTURE
1 Corinthians 2:9
Rather, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what has been prepared for those who love God.”
WORDS OF HOPE
It’s always fun to watch my cat look out the window after I draw the blinds by his perch. He sits there patiently waiting for the light to come through then stares intently until he catches site of birds flying by or a lizard that darts across the yard.
As I watched him this morning, I thought about my life and contemplated the ways I have been seeing others and myself. I wondered if I was looking with criticism and impatience instead of taking time to be unconditional and forgiving. I’ve always heard “where your eyes go, you will follow” and that made me think about what I see through my own window into the world.
Lately I’ve been distracted with work, family matters and other such things that occupy my time and cloud my inner vision. While there are no silver bullets to shoot down distraction, disappointment, fear, or any other feeling that keeps us from being close to God, Christ taught his disciples that the “eye” is the light of the soul.
I recognize the more “in” sight I have with my spiritual eyes the better I can see what God is revealing. I can hear the word of God with my ears but when I allow myself to see God in every aspect of my life, it creates a revelation that is easier to understand. What the soul takes in, the soul takes on, if my eyes see it, it becomes a part of me too.
Jesus opened the eyes of disbelievers, prophets, and teachers who could only see doctrine, and caused the stoning of a woman to be dismantled when he opened the eyes of her accusers. Jesus set the stage for all humankind to follow in his footsteps by giving us insight and desire to understand his teachings.
PRAYER
Creator God, give us the courage to keep the windows to our soul open that we might see ourselves and others more clearly through your love. In Jesus name, Amen
