Why We Need Cohousing: US Neighborhoods in Trouble

Teamwork was required to haul in selections from Nevada City Cohousing's annual "Pick Your Pumpkin" event!

A Day in the Life of a 3-Year-Old Cohouser

Elliot had a big day on Saturday as Nevada City Cohousing was abuzz.

9:47 a.m. Inspection and consultation on a sidewalk repair. Looks good from down here!

11:17 a.m. Making sure Dad paints the mechanical room doors correctly. You missed a spot!

1:30 p.m. Better check on the blueberries with Tiger. Yum! They are Elliot approved.

2:34 p.m. Break time to play with trains in the kid's room - choo choo!

Honoring the Changing Seasons

Nevada City Cohousing Pumpkin Carving

The fluttering of falling leaves, the chill in the air - autumn is making its presence known here in Nevada City, CA and across the Northern hemisphere. This is a time of vast and rapid change for Mother Earth, and with it comes an array of spectacles, from gloriously vast color palettes to the earlier-setting sun, and eventually, the first falling of snow.

These celebrations - the fall harvest, Halloween, Thanksgiving - center around people and the power of connection. In cohousing, the meaning and importance of these events amplifies. Together, we share the fresh food we've grown in our gardens. Together, we prepare our common meals. Together, we laugh and play, no matter our age (as shown in the photo of all ages having a blast carving pumpkins!). Together, we celebrate as a community with deep care for one another. That, after all, is what the season is all about!

Client Spotlight: Katie Visits Washington Commons

West Sacramento, CA

Katie Visits Washington Commons

Having been involved in their project from the start, before they had even found this property, CS President Katie McCamant recently joined Washington Commons for a memorable site tour!

"It's a special moment when you're able to witness a cohouser seeing their future home, with the drywall up and they are really able to start measuring rooms and imagining how they will furnish" said Katie.

Along for the tour was a film crew gathering footage for a future short documentary on ways to address the loneliness epidemic. The crew had interviewed Katie at Nevada City Cohousing a few days earlier, and were excited to see another community. We can't say much more about the film yet, but be sure to follow our news for the latest updates!

Also on the tour was a trainee of CS' 500 Communities Program who wanted to learn more about cohousing firsthand. It's always inspiring to see our students' excitement, and we can't wait to see the amazing contributions they will make to the professional cohousing world.

Washington Commons is slated to move in early next year. A few units are still available - visit their website or contact Shelly Parks at 425.308.0639 for more information.
