CohoUS Event: Demystifying Common Meals

Virtual Event

Join US cohousing veteran and co-founder of the movement Katie McCamant to demystify Common Meals. The tradition of sharing meals is one of the core pillars of cohousing (and for humankind for millennia, for that matter), but it can be overwhelming to folks new to the movement. Even existing communities often struggle to keep their meal systems going, and many are trying to revamp them post-Covid. In her work with dozens of forming cohousing communities across North America, Katie finds that people often start with a lot of misconceptions about what makes for a successful community meal system. Katie will share tips from her decades of experience to make it easy, fun and engaging for both new and seasoned cohousers.

Learn More About Katie on Our Site and be sure to visit the Cohousing Association of the US, too!

Client Spotlight: Heartwood Commons

Tulsa, OK

One of the best parts of our jobs here at CoHousing Solutions is being part of the excitement as a community nears construction completion. Our client Heartwood Commons in Tulsa, OK is projecting move-ins for later this year, so we thought we'd provide an update on their project and what makes their community so popular!

About Heartwood Commons

The Community

As a cohousing community of active adults, Heartwood Commons will consist of 36 homes, a Common House, fire pit, conversation hubs, tool lending library, and much more (in addition to everyone's private, personally-owned dwelling). Learn more about the community HERE.

The Members

Members are exciting and vibrant with many interests like local theatre and what residents call "Porch Sitting" - spending time on their porch chatting with neighbors. They also hold true to their values through action: throughout construction, they have regularly provided crews with snacks and drinks. Meet the Members HERE.

About Tulsa

Affordability

In 2021, the city (pop. 400,669) was named the 2nd most affordable big city in the U.S. by Rocket Homes (15% below national average). Even among cohousing communities, new home costs at Heartwood Commons are some of the lowest available (1 bedroom starting at $315k and 2 bedrooms starting at $399k).

So Much to Love

Tulsa retains a friendly small-town atmosphere while boasting world-class art museums and full-time professional opera, ballet and theater companies. It is home to a diverse, award-winning music scene. A hotbed for entrepreneurship, the city attracts young professionals from across the country which keeps Tulsa an exciting, relevant, and engaging place to live.

2024 National Cohousing Conference Has Been Announced!

In 2024, CohoUS returns to their Colorado roots (did you know CohoUS began as the Rocky Mountain Cohousing Network?) to reconnect with what brings us together in the first place: an experience of deep connection and belonging. Their biennial conference will be a space for connection, learning and growth. We will listen deeply, share openly and reflect on the past, present and future of the cohousing movement. While grounded in our commitment to belonging, we will explore strategies to make cohousing a more equitable and diverse space.

Join CohoUS, CoHousing Solutions, and others in Denver, CO in August of 2024. The main conference is August 2-4 with pre-conference intensives and tours beginning on August 1. Early bird registration will begin in early 2024, with limited space available. Register below to be the first to know when registration is open and receive updates about the conference.
