FEBRUARY: The Art of Neighboring Event in the Bay Area

WOW! What a turnout - we were thrilled to meet so many people interested in cohousing in the San Francisco Bay Area, including forming groups (and CS clients) Washington Commons, Mission Peak Village and Berkeley Moshav.

CS President Katie McCamant was the keynote speaker, alongside Danny Milman, Development Manager with UD+P. They spoke about the history and future of cohousing in the Bay Area - most importantly that now is the time to get involved in one of these three groups if you want to live in Bay Area cohousing within the next five years.

While we were in the Bay, we had the pleasure of returning to old haunts at Berkeley Cohousing as they celebrated their 30-year anniversary of getting the property (Katie was the Project Manager, and Danny had lived there...back in the day). It was really special to share this anniversary with residents old and new, including several of the “kids” who had grown up there. Such a special place, such special relationships! If you have any doubts about living in cohousing, go visit one and see for yourself.

As luck would have it, you may be able to do just that during National Cohousing Open House Days May 4-5! Learn more and find open houses at CohoUS.

FEBRUARY: Katie Visits Baltimore

This was Katie's first visit to the city, where she met with members of Cohousing of Greater Baltimore, including founder Lorraine Faris (Left), walked a potential property with them, and gave a rousing public presentation about living in cohousing, especially as we get older.

MARCH: Katie Visits New York

Along with cohousing architect Bryan Bowen of Caddis Collaborative, Katie took the train up to the New York Hudson Valley to work with a community on their site plan and gave a public presentation about cohousing in Stone Ridge, NY. New York laws restrict this group's outreach, but contact CS if you want to learn more about their efforts.

Upcoming Events

Cohousing experts Katie McCamant and Danny Milman of UD+P offer this day-long workshop to share what it takes to create cohousing in the South Bay (of the San Francisco Bay Area). Whether you are considering starting your own community, joining Mission Peak Village, or buying into another community, we'll share what we know about getting cohousing built in the South Bay.

We'll cover:

  • How you find property
  • Typical development timeline
  • How to mitigate risk
  • And more!

Fee: $150

The workshop fee will be credited toward the Explorer Fee for Mission Peak Village. Prior and current MPV Explorers can attend for free - contact info@cohousing-solutions.com for details.

Cohousing National Open House Days

On Saturday, May 4th, and Sunday, May 5th, 2024, cohousing communities across the country will open their doors to neighbors and friends from their surrounding communities, and others interested in learning more about Cohousing. National Open House Days is cohousers’ chance to share with you the story of cohousing – who we are, how we live, and why we love this way of life (and why you should consider it, too!)

Save The Date for CohoUS's National Conference!

Be sure to save the date and join CoHousing Solutions and the Cohousing Association of the U.S. for the 2024 National Cohousing Conference in Denver. The biennial conference will be a space for connection, learning and growth.

We will listen deeply, share openly and reflect on the past, present and future of the cohousing movement. While grounded in our commitment to belonging, we will explore strategies to make cohousing a more equitable and diverse space.
