Redmond Tennis Club is excited to announce that Lan Bale, an 11-year ATP tour veteran who reached a ranking high of 23 in doubles and 170 in singles, will be joining the club as a coach on November 25
th, 2019. With Grand Slam experience that includes the quarterfinals in doubles (Wimbledon 1994) and coaching positions such as former Assistant Coach at UC Berkeley and National Performance Coach at Tennis New Zealand, Lan brings a unique breadth of playing and coaching knowledge to RTC’s already stellar staff.
As a former number one ranked Junior in South Africa in the Boys 16
and 18 age groups, Lan understands the drive and commitment it takes to excel as a young tennis player. A certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR), Lan has a strong passion for developing young talent from the local through the international level.
From 2013-18 Lan worked with Tennis New Zealand as a National Performance Coach and National Selector where he played a key role in selecting the most promising New Zealand junior tennis players for funding and touring opportunities. During his time in this position Lan managed the tournament, training schedule, and overall development of top New Zealand juniors including accompanying them to local and international tournaments, organizing national development training camps and training regional coaches to improve their methods. He also selected New Zealand’s national junior teams including the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup groups.
As a former D1 Assistant Coach at UC Berkeley, Coach Lan brings college coaching experience to the RTC team. In his role at Berkeley, Lan worked with individual team members, facilitated team training and recruited future players. RTC players engaging in the college recruiting process will be able to draw on Coach Lan’s knowledge and college coaching/recruiting background.
Coach Lan is excited to relocate to the Pacific Northwest and work with juniors at RTC. He will focus on developing students in Premier 1 & Premier 2 and as a private coach. His doubles mastery, national junior development expertise, and college coaching experience amplify Redmond Tennis Club’s already exemplary coaching staff, continuing to build our club’s reputation as one of the premier junior tennis development facilities in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
