New Trier Green Captures Championship in the 2017 Blackhawks Charities High School Holiday Hockey Classic
By Ross Forman

The hole was just too deep for Stevenson. Make that, 3-deep.  New Trier Green struck Stevenson fast and hard in the championship game of the 24th annual Chicago Blackhawks Charities High School Holiday Hockey Classic, presented by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Trevians built a 3-0 lead about 8 minutes into the first period, played Dec. 29 at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

The Trevians ultimately skated away with the title - and the plaque presented to the champions - of the 20-team tourney that was held Dec. 26-29.  "We played pretty well (in the tournament) ... until today," Stevenson head coach Tom Wood said after the title-game loss. "We've been stressing team-defense all tournament, and coming into the championship game, we had only given up three goals. So we were doing a really good job defensively ... until the finals. Ask AHAI: Q&A session regarding Tier I (AAA) goalie/player removal, roster size, player addition and State Tournament eligibility
QUESTION: Our team recently had a goalie go down for the year with a bad knee injury. We received a letter from the parent stating that he is done for the season. Can the goalie be removed from our roster?
ANSWER: Yes, the goalie may be removed as long as you have acceptance and concurrence from the parents.

QUESTION: As far as replacing the goalie/player that was removed, is it true that a team may not have more than 20 players on their roster?
ANSWER: That is correct. If you currently have a roster of 20, one must be removed (as per previous question) before another can be added. READ FULL Q&A>>

After 25 years of other coaching experiences, he is now back in High School Hockey, and said he, "loves it."  Swoyer is the head coach and hockey director at Hinsdale Central, his first season with the team and his sixth season coaching high school hockey.  He has lived in Hinsdale for 25 years - and is focused on the team's future, and present too, of course. Swoyer, for instance, has no idea what the team's record was last season, nor does he have any interest in asking. READ MORE>>
