Children in poverty who are reading proficiently by
the end of 3 rd grade have an 89% graduation rate.
Coaches make a difference by giving one hour a week to tutor two students utilizing a simple sight word method. Join us to impact the lives of children, teachers, and families in our community.  

Coaching Sessions are one hour a week, Tuesday's and/or Thursday's from 1:30-2:30PM, starting Thursday, October 17th in the New Market School Cafeteria.

Coaches Training, required for all Coaches is Tuesday, October 15th from 1:30-2:30PM in Holly Franklin's room at New Market School.

We are ramping up for the December 4th Kick-off!

Ways to get involved:

We are hiring Team Leads , who work Monday-Friday 2:30-5:30PM. If you (or someone you know) are an energetic person who likes working with students, please contact Shari Shrum at

Opportunities to serve with your Gifts and Talents: i.e., Homework Helper, Enrichment Club Leader/Helper, such as Chess Club, Good News Club, STEM Club (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Beginner Coding Club, Art Club, Home Keeping Club, Builders Club, etc . As a volunteer, you can serve 1, 2 or 3 days a week for 1-1/2 up to 3 hours per day. We know you have Hobbies to share with New Market students!

This after-school program will target students on free and reduced lunch, with priority to those that are below proficiency in math and reading. We are thankful for the Heart of the Valley YMCA and New Market School for partnering in this important program!
