Coaching Preps Students for Fall Liftoff

College Skills are Life Skills

We're in mid-August and somehow, it is time once again to gear up for the fall semester. When students are able to metacognitively think through their fall coursework ahead of time – evaluating their experiences last spring in either college or their senior year, considering what worked and didn't, and setting intentions for growth and achievement – they will be more prepared to succeed.

The actions that drive college success have a close association to those that generate workplace success and advancement. Even when students struggle to get motivated to strive and persist in college, they may be able to increase their motivation if they understand how their effort, persistence, collaboration, flexibility, and task completion will benefit them in their future careers.

Coaches who have the opportunity to meet with students ahead of the fall semester can prep them for liftoff with questions like these:

  • What did you succeed at last spring, and how can you apply this strength to your fall coursework?

  • What didn't work for you last spring, and how can you transform that situation to improve for fall?

  • What is your top priority course for the fall, and how might you identify the key strategy for success in this course?

  • Who can help you learn this fall, and how can you connect with those individuals early?

  • How can you protect some time for self-care this fall?

Protect time for your own self-care by signing up to learn the twelve basic coaching skills in LifeBound’s 3-Day Inclusive Training (Sept 6, 13 and 20). Advance your coaching practice and mastery by applying for the Fall LifeBound Certification Course (beginning Sept 24), as long as you have completed the 3-day basic training.
