Coaching for Voice, Impact, and Change
As the nation celebrates the anniversary of its Declaration of Independence, recent Supreme Court decisions bring powerful questions to mind: What does freedom mean? What does it look like to have a democracy that works for all? How can those who have more sit with the perspective of those who have less and be generous in their connections and understanding? How can those with less options self-advocate, generate hope, and persist in the face of headwinds?
Asking powerful questions of coachees can empower them to speak up and make impactful change no matter where they stand and how they are resourced. The strongest motivation derives not from others providing instructions, but from ideas authentically generated from within. Questions like these, and many more, can drive impact:
-
When a coachee feels disadvantaged: What is missing that you feel you deserve to have? To whom can you self-advocate? How would you envision the best change? What action can you take today to begin the change?
-
When a coachee could make a difference: If you could design an ideal situation, what would it look like? What change would you be most able and willing to make? Who can you partner with in helping others in this way? What do you want others to gain?
