DEA Issues Warning About 'Rainbow Fentanyl' pills being used to target young Americans

By Jillian Smith, KFXL Fox Nebraska

"Rainbow fentanyl - fentanyl pills and powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes -- is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction among kids and young adults," DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said in a statement.

One mom knows first-hand the pain of losing a child to a dangerous drug. After two years, Rebecca Kiessling is still haunted by the last advice she gave her son Caleb: "You don't get a second chance. You don't get another life", Kiessling said.

Days later, Kiessling lost not only Caleb but her other son Kyler as well. The boys died together in a hotel room in Michigan in 2020 after ingesting fake Percocet pills that Kiessling says were 100% fentanyl.

Fake prescription drugs laced with fentanyl are killing users and the new danger is fentanyl pills or power that look like candy sold in bright colors -- some even resembling sidewalk chalk -- targeted at kids."

East Valley Family Warning Others about Drug Sales on Social Media After Son's Death

Reposted By KOLN News

"It's been pretty rough, grief, depression, all that stuff. Alex's younger sister, Eden, joined her parents in turning their grief into a campaign to inform parents and lawmakers to pressure social media companies to crack down on drug sales.

Narcotics detectives do a lot of Snapchat surveillance. In Maricopa county, they've seized millions in cash plus assault weapons and countless pills all from Snapchat drug cases.

So if I tried with your help here in the East Valley to order something (drugs) from my Snapchat account, how quickly or how easily would that be? It's super easy, it's just like ordering a pizza. It's like, really easy. Most people who aren't up with the times, don't know what any of them (emojis) mean.

The advice is to monitor social media interactions, checking contacts and emojis while avoiding knee-jerk reactions, like seizing a child's phone."
