The Action Group is part of something BIG. As a member of the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions, we are among over 40 purchaser coalitions guided by diverse thought leaders from coast to coast. These powerful coalitions represent over 12,000 health care purchasers and 45 million Americans.

"The National Alliance has an impressive and growing agenda designed to bring transformational change to the healthcare marketplace through our member coalitions," says Mike Thompson, president and CEO of the National Alliance. "We serve the largest purchasers of healthcare outside of our entitlement programs -- employers."

One Spot Left! Unique (and Free!) Mental Health Training for Members

Action Group members have a unique chance to participate in a mental health training program at no cost. Mental Health First Aid at Work from the National Council of Behavioral Health is open to all members of The Action Group's Mental Health Learning Network. There are six spots for members who are not part of the Learning Network -- but only one remains.

This workplace mental health training program teaches participants how to notice and support an individual who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use concern or crisis and connect them with the appropriate employee resources.

The training is July 18, 2018, from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and we have reserved spots for Learning Network members. Other Action Group members may contact Deb Krause (dkrause@mnhealthaction group.org) to register for one of the six remaining spots (first come, first served basis). Learn more here.

Price transparency is an essential component of a value-based, rational health care marketplace. Yet, for many reasons it remains elusive.

Action Group members are invited to join an August 14 webinar from 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. to hear our panel of experts share their perspectives on variable prices for common health care procedures in Minnesota, and what employer health care coalitions nationally are doing to better understand the marketplace and push for greater price transparency

This webinar builds on our June member meeting where Action Group members heard market insights from Allan Baumgarten, renowned analyst and health care consultant. As Allan shared, Minnesota health plans reported profits of $810M in 2017. Twin Cities hospital systems also reported profits of $444M in 2016 (most recently available information).

"Employers are facing the reality that their ability to offer affordable, competitive benefits continues to be compromised by high health care costs," says Carolyn Pare, Action Group president and CEO. "Unless employers use their collective voice to influence marketplace change, surprisingly large profit margins will continue to favor health plans, and hospitals and care systems."

(PLEASE NOTE THIS WEBINAR IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR ACTION GROUP MEMBERS)
