Greetings from C. Darby Ulery, founder of "Let's Go! Fairhope," the events-related newsletter, calendar and website resource for Fairhope, Alabama.
If you're downtown in the evenings this week, you might see crews beginning to prepare for the City of Fairhope's annual Lighting of the Trees event scheduled for November 21st at 5:30 pm.
We also have Coastal Cleanup Day happening this Saturday, September 21, beginning at 8 AM. If you're like me, you see this annual event as a coming together for our environmentally-conscious community, special thanks to the City of Fairhope for organizing it. But apparently I've been living under a flipflop, because I didn't previously realize what a big splash this event makes in the world.
The Coastal Cleanup is not just a Fairhope event, nor just the largest volunteer event in the state of Alabama. Waves of people all over the planet are actually collecting coastal trash on the same day.
Click here to learn more about this amazing annual event, including a connection to legendary folk singer-songwriter John Denver, wigs, lottery tickets, and thousands of condoms...
Please reply and let me know what else I don't know, because I'm always looking to learn more about our community.
Other highlights this week:
- A new kind of mullet contest (Think: haircuts, not fish)
- Baldwin Family Village Gathering
- Fairhope Farmer's Market
- Mobile Bay Maker's Market
- Preview of this week's events list, and more...
While there are generous shout-outs in the newsletter and the accompanying black-and-white weekly events list, space is only guaranteed for businesses and organizations who appreciate the support of the Let's Go! Fairhope project and help keep it going.
If your event has disappeared, or has yet to appear in the events list or newsletter, please reach out at letsgofairhope.com or 251-929-GOGO to let us know.
As always, your thoughts are appreciated.
