The 2022 GNCC season is off and running with the Big Buck GNCC in Union, SC kicking off the '22 championship once again.
The treacherous terrain in the hills on South Carolina proved tricky, claiming some of the top riders throughout the weekend including Johnny Girroir #1. An unfortunate crash on lap two left him with serious injuries which will see him out of contention for a few months.
Ricky Russell #212 rocketed off to a holeshot and ran up front early on, but off-season injuries hampered his prep and he played it safe to reach the finish 11th XC1 unscathed. Meanwhile, Ryder Lafferty #19 suffered from a bad start, but made key passes in the first half of the race to get into podium contention and finish 3rd XC2 by race end.
On the amateur side, Cole Whitmer #518 made his return to racing in the Open A class, running up front all race long to finish 2nd in his open bike debut. Little brother Lane Whitmer #587 is competing in the "A" class full time this year and charged hard to 4th in 4-Stroke A Lites. Shawn Remington #76 put in consistent laps hovering around the Top 5 for three hours to finish 5th 40+ A.
