Together, we are the body of Christ ~ transforming people from members into disciples, moving more deeply into God's call to life and ministry, and extending our mission beyond the status quo.

Note: The Duvall Center office of the bishop and diocesan staff will be closed on Monday, January 19, in honor and observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

55th Annual Diocesan Convention: "Let There Be Light"

Mark your calendars for the 55th Annual Diocesan Convention to be held February 27-28, 2026, at the Hilton Pensacola Beach. Our host will be St. Francis of Assisi, Gulf Breeze. Our theme this year is "Let There Be Light" and will focus on creation and creativity!

Diocesan Convention is our primary gathering of clergy and lay representatives from across the Central Gulf Coast, where we worship together, make decisions that shape our common life, celebrate the ministries flourishing in our congregations, and discern how God is calling us forward. It is an essential expression of our shared governance and mission.

Consider being a delegate! Serving as a delegate to our Annual Diocesan Convention in February 2026 is a meaningful way to represent your congregation, deepen your connection to the wider diocesan family, and take part in the life and leadership of our church. To learn more about being a delegate, take a look at this new Convention Delegate Guide created by the Rev. Katie Gillett, our convention secretary.

Standing Committee Member Nominations - Part of our convention business is electing one clergy and two lay people to serve on our Standing Committee for a three-year term. Delegates may make nominations now through January 28. LEARN MORE OR SUBMIT A NOMINATION HERE.

General Convention Deputy Nominations - Another part of our convention business is electing four clergy and four lay deputies (and alternates) to the General Convention, which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, July 3-8, 2027. Elected deputies and bishops from every diocese will gather to discern and participate in the polity of The Episcopal Church. Delegates may make nominations now through January 28. LEARN MORE OR SUBMIT A NOMINATION HERE.

And you don't have to be a delegate to attend the convention. Everyone is invited. Come enjoy our diocesan community! Registration is open!

A Living Example of Diaconal Ministry

by the Rev. Joy Blaylock, Dean of School for Ministry and Missioner for Discipleship

I recently had a fruitful discussion with one of our priests about the role of deacons in our diocese and the impact on future generations. Since 2017, the School for Ministry has raised five locally formed permanent deacons, one of whom is the Rev. Kay Dennis of Marianna, Florida.

Kay is shining her light brightly in her community in a variety of ways, one of which is through her numerous newspaper articles and the publication of her own books. For Advent, Kay produced a beautiful book of devotions, and she has done so again for Lent.

Trinity, Apalachicola's Outreach team delivered Christmas toys and clothes for 30 children at Franklin County School through its Giving Tree program, while Bring Me a Book Forgotten Coast volunteers distributed over 1,000 free, brand new books to children at 16 holiday events and locations throughout the region. Trinity, along with other area businesses and organizations, is now an official partner of Bring Me a Book.

St. Luke's, Marianna, Threads of Hope women's ministry lovingly hand-stitched and delivered 1,717 hats to Marianna K-8 as a tangible expression of care wrapped around the heads - and hearts - of local children. In addition, the group delivered almost 500 store-bought hats to Marianna Health and Rehab and Davina Dialysis as a reminder to the patients that they are seen, remembered, and cared for. This show of love for others made the local news, read about it here.

Redeemer, Mobile welcomed Bishop Russell for his annual visitation, which they cheerfully dubbed "Chillin with the Bishop." The congregation wore an array of crazy hats that rivaled the bishop's mitre and competed in a chili cook-off won by parishioner Joan Chadick. You can see more photos by becoming a Friend of Redeemer on Facebook, here.

St. Anna's, Poarch, invited their community for a Feast of Lights Service on Epiphany. The event featured s'mores, hotdog roasting, and the burning of Christmas trees and wreaths, marking the end of the Christmas season and ushering in the next liturgical season with light and purpose.
