Standing Committee and bishop appoint committee to review canons

At the 55th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of the Gulf Coast, delegates passed a resolution to begin revising the diocese's canons to better guide the Church's work and mission in our present context. The resolution required that the bishop and Standing Committee invite nominations for lay and clergy members to serve on the committee and to assemble the committee in a way that reflects, as much as possible, the wide diversity of the diocese.
From those nominated, the Standing Committee and the bishop have invited the following to serve:
Convocation 1: Michelle Nicrosi, The Rev. Dcn. Terry Goff
Convocation 2: The Rev. Tina Lockett
Convocation 3: Chris Hart, The Rev. David Clothier
Convocation 4: Cemira Powell, Harry Hall
Convocation 5: John Ericson, The Rev. Steven Pecot
The bishop and Standing Committee thank all who were nominated and invite the people of the diocese to remember the committee's work in their prayers.
Under the terms of the resolution, the committee will submit its recommendations for revisions to the convention that will meet in February of 2027 in Gulf Shores.
The committee will have its first meeting on June 13.

2026-2027 Lay School for Ministry Information

I have begun to get inquiries about our Lay School options for next year, so I want to share some pertinent information.
The School for Lay Ministry offers five tracks: pastoral care leader, worship leader, preacher, catechist, and evangelist. You can find the application and a detailed description of each track here on our diocesan website.
With over 100 licensed lay leaders now, we have been very pleased with how they have embraced their study of our faith and its traditions. We look forward to continuing this dynamic to further equip our churches in your varied contexts and beyond.

Redeemer, Mobile, celebrated Pentecost with lots of RED, music, and family! During Children's Time, the "kiddos" were invited up to learn more about how the table is set for Eucharist, and then brought up again at the Eucharist to get a bird's-eye view of the celebration. Everyone wore their red, and it was beautiful. Gifts were brought to support Redeemer's food assistance ministry. The service ended with a glad sound of praise, with everyone taking part with instruments and dance.

Part-time Accompanist

Duties include accompanying Sunday services and choir rehearsal (Thursdays 5:30–6:45pm), playing preludes/postludes, and assisting with special liturgies (Christmas, Holy Week, etc.). Music is primarily traditional hymnody with occasional special services (Celtic, jazz, Taizé). Part-time Youth Coordinator
St. Jude's, Niceville, is seeking a part-time,12-month youth coordinator. The position focuses on the ministry to and of the parish's youth, from 6th grade through 12th grade. This person will help shape our youth's faith and provide a safe place for them to develop relationships and explore the Christian faith. ‘Signs and Grace’ video course available in new Episcopal Church, Forward Movement formation partnership
A new three-session, video-based course about baptism, Eucharist, and the church’s sacramental rites is available for download or streaming with accompanying study guides. “Signs and Grace: An Introduction to the Sacraments” marks the first video collaboration between The Episcopal Church and Forward Movement in a partnership designed to provide free formation resources for dioceses and congregations.
The course—which includes 45- or 60-minute options, with facilitator and participant guides—is ideal for newcomer classes, adult forums, Sunday school, small groups, and those preparing for confirmation. The three 20-minute-long videos are in English with Spanish subtitles, as well as the study guides.
