Gulf Coast Mental Health Alliance holds training day to address mental health challenges
With special thanks to St. Christopher’s in Pensacola for hosting our day, the newly formed Mental Health Alliance offered a workshop for Mental Health First Aid training from the National Council for Wellbeing on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
The goal of our alliance is to provide education and resources to parishes that would like to learn safe and effective ways to help those who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. Included in this training was a multi-faceted address of recognizing the signs and symptoms of a health challenge and then how to offer help and support.
Under the guidance of two certified instructors, Cindy Wiley and Linda Foster, participants learned basic assessment techniques for application in a variety of situations along with tools to assist in better awareness of mental health services and possibilities (which vary greatly between Alabama and Florida).

At Christ Church Cathedral in Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, May 4, Bishop Russell ordained six individuals to the diaconate. Leanne Beaumont, Pam Christian, Ted Kirchharr, and Jen Rice were ordained transitional deacons (on path to become priests); Kay Dennis and Pratt Paterson were ordained vocational deacons (lifelong ministry of service), Deacons in the Episcopal Church play a vital role as servants of both the church and the community. They assist clergy in worship services, proclaim the Gospel, and often lead outreach programs, serving the marginalized and vulnerable. It was a momentous occasion, marking the commitment of these individuals to a life of dedicated service and ministry within the church. VIEW PHOTO ALBUM | |
For the third consecutive year, the ladies of St. James Episcopal Church in Eufaula hosted a fundraising event named "Tablescapes." This event coincides with the annual Eufaula Pilgrimage, a tour showcasing antebellum homes. The ECW (Episcopal Church Women) arranged ten tables in the parish hall, each themed "A Night in Paris." On Friday night, over 100 individuals attended the showcase, which featured not only the decorated tables but also offered hors d'oeuvres and champagne. Throughout the weekend, more than 200 visitors admired the beautiful table settings. The proceeds from this event support ECW donations to programs such as Beckwith and Murray House.
