Together, we are the body of Christ ~ transforming people from members into disciples, moving more deeply into God's call to life and ministry, and extending our mission beyond the status quo.

Note: The Duvall Center office of the bishop and diocesan staff will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.

Does My Mission Glorify God?

by The Rev. Clelia Pinza-Garrity, LCSW – Deacon and member of the Commission on Global Mission Engagement

This month our Global Mission reflection focuses on the Rev. Fadi Diab, rector of St. Andrew’s Church in Ramallah and St. Peter’s Church, Birziet, as presenter in week seven of the post-Easter video series offered by the Episcopal Church’s Office of Global Partnerships (OGP): Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus: An Easter Journey with Palestinian Christians.

Since the onset of the Israel/Gaza war on October 7, 2023, Fr. Fadi has been a key participant in various forums produced by both the Global Episcopal Mission Network (GEMN) and the OGP. He has been and remains a constant, compelling, and passionate spokesperson for the Diocese of Jerusalem and has offered ongoing updates on the lives of not only Christians but all who live on Jerusalem’s West Bank. I am a huge fan of his and I think you will be too after viewing his reflection. It is Week Seven in the above-referenced link.

Earlier this month at the Province IV Synod, Jill Showers Chow (pictured center), member of Christ Church Cathedral, Mobile, and lay deputy to the General Convention, was elected to serve as a lay representative on the Executive Committee. Serving alongside Joe McDaniel, Jr. of Christ Church Parish, Pensacola, her election gives us two people from the Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast serving on the General Convention's Executive Council.

On Pentecost Sunday, St. Cyprian's, Pensacola, celebrated the dedication of their new, handmade banner. The origin of church banners dates back to when religious worship was held in secret and banners were used to identify meeting places. Evolving over history, these works of sacred art are now displayed in church naves and carried during celebratory services to serve as visual reminders of a congregation's shared values, history, and traditions.

Episcopal Church unveils new Pride shield in celebration of LGBTQ+ inclusion

In affirmation and celebration of The Episcopal Church’s LGBTQ+ members, the Office of Communication is pleased to unveil a new Pride shield available online for churchwide use.

The design retains the upper-left blue corner of The Episcopal Church’s shield logo and incorporates elements of the traditional Pride flag as well as the Progress Pride flag and Philadelphia Pride flag. In their use of black, brown, pink, and light-blue diagonal lines, the latter two flags represent intersectional progress in acknowledging people who are often overlooked by the mainstream LGBTQ+ movement: communities of color; the transgender community; and the many thousands harmed by anti-LGBTQ+ policy—from those who lost their lives in the AIDS crisis of the 1980s and ‘90s, to those still disproportionately impacted today.
