Small choices can make a big difference!
Composting keeps food scraps and yard waste out of the landfill and turns organic materials like fruit and veggie scraps, leaves and grass clippings into nutrient-rich compost for healthy soil.
We absolutely loved seeing how excited this little guy and his mom were to win a compost bin at this past Saturday’s International Coastal Cleanup event. When given the choice of prizes, they chose to compost, and you can too!

The Gulf Coast Council, Scouting America and Okaloosa County America 250 are promoting the next event, America 250 Heritage Festival and Scout Expo, with a photo contest. The Deadline for submissions is approaching ENTER TODAY! - Finalists will be chosen by visitors at the Expo on October 10. Winners will be featured for public viewing at the Expo.

Fort Walton Beach Golf Course hosts annual City Championship
The Fort Walton Beach Golf Club will host the annual City Championship tournament Oct. 3-4, 2026. Winners in each flight take home a 1-year membership.
This tournament is open to everyone, so bring your best game and compete for the City Championship title! Spots are limited, so don't wait. Register in person
At the Fort Walton Beach Golf Club Pro Shop, located at 1955 Lewis Turner Blvd. Hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Telephone number is 850-833-9664.

Free Yoga class at the Fort Walton Beach Public Library
Like books? Like yoga? The Fort Walton Beach Public Library has you covered.
The library is partnering with Bayside Yoga Studio to offer a free beginner-friendly, whole wellness yoga class at the library from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026.
Space is limited to 25 and registration opens 8 a.m. September 23, 2026. Register here.
This is just the beginning! We’re hoping to bring even more yoga classes into the library. So, grab your mat and come stretch with us!

Concerts at The Landing series continues through Friday, Oct. 23
We’re three weeks into the Fall 2026 Concerts at The Landing series, and we’ve had some great bands and performances so far.
Coming up this Friday, Sept. 25, we welcome local legend Black Eyed Blonde to the stage. All shows are free and held on Fridays, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the newly renovated Fort Walton Beach Landing, located downtown at 139 Brooks Street SE.

Former Angel Tree Program Returns as Operation Jingle Bells
A familiar holiday tradition is getting a new name this year. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Okaloosa County School District are bringing back the program formerly known as Angel Tree, now called Operation Jingle Bells. The annual partnership helps bring holiday joy to students and families who may be facing financial challenges. School counselors and school resource officers work together to identify students in need and create holiday wish lists, which they share with generous community members who want to help. Okaloosa County Schools Honor Patriot Day and 250 Years of America
On September 11, schools across the Okaloosa County School District paused to remember, honor, and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001—and to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who serve our nation and communities. From classroom lessons and student artwork to JROTC ceremonies, pep rallies, football games, and moments of remembrance, students and staff throughout the district found meaningful ways to honor Patriot Day. At Niceville High School (NHS), Friday night’s football game brought the school and community together for a special tribute. Before the game, students, families, and fans were reminded of the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed that day, and the first responders who ran toward danger to protect others. The presentation also recognized the men and women of the U.S. military who have served—and continue to serve—in defense of our nation and its freedoms.

Fort Walton Beach High School Student Named National Merit Semifinalist
Fort Walton Beach High School senior Keira Foy has been named a Semifinalist in the 2027 National Merit® Scholarship Program. Foy is among more than 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide selected from more than 1.2 million students who entered the competition by taking the 2025 PSAT/NMSQT® in the fall of their junior year. The Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. “We are incredibly proud of Keira and this well-deserved recognition,” said Fort Walton Beach High School Principal Lindsey Smith. “This achievement reflects her determination, commitment, and love of learning. She is an outstanding representative of Fort Walton Beach High School, and we are excited to support her as she continues toward the Finalist level.” Read more...
