The Power of Bicycling
“I thought of that while riding my bicycle.”
~ Albert Einstein on the Theory of Relativity

Before we cruise right through May and into June, let’s hit the brakes for a moment to celebrate National Bike Month. In fact, right now we’re wrapping up Bike to Work Week, May 16-22, and National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 20.

So while you still have a chance, I invite you to check out the wide range of resources provided by The League of American Bicyclists to help us celebrate – and better recognize the many benefits of bicycling.

Bicycling Benefits
And there are many: Bicycling brings people together. When more people ride bikes, life is better for everyone; communities are safer, stronger, and better connected; and our nation is healthier, economically stronger, environmentally cleaner, and more energy independent.

Biking also makes you happy! Granted, it may not help make you a brainiac like Einstein, but it does release chemicals in the brain like serotonin, dopamine, and phenylethylamine that help to keep you stay happier.

Last but not least, biking is good for business. Check out this Bike-Friendly Business program offered by Bike Coconut Grove, a local nonprofit that promotes safer streets for bicycling and walking, to learn about the benefits of a being bike-friendly business.

Happy riding!

Make Your Opinion Heard

We've been advised by Mel Meinhardt, Chair of the Friends Of The Commodore Trail, that the May 18 Commodore Trail Master Plan Community Workshop at Carrollton School was postponed to June 21.

This was done to allow the public to instead participate in a “Ride of Silence ”event honoring the two cyclists fatally struck May 15 on the Rickenbacker Causeway. Wednesday's Community Workshop was to focus on the Main Highway/Center Grove area, but you may still give input on the other sections of the initial design at the other upcoming meetings.
