Cocoon Gallery, a retailer of nature-inspired, hand-crafted furnishings and décor founded 20 years old ago in Greenwich, Conn., has established a 25,000-square-foot woodshop in the Naples Design District. The woodshop is a stone's throw from the Cocoon Gallery showroom, which opened in 2020 on 5th Avenue South in the heart of Naples’ vibrant retail and dining scene. Previously, Cocoon also maintained a gallery and woodshop in Greenwich.
The woodshop includes a custom-made kiln designed to accommodate giant slabs of wood and root systems. Artisans employ a multi-step process that combines art and science to create functional art from what nature gives. "We're enhancing what nature gives for people's homes," says Cocoon founder Mitchell Siegel.
Relocating the Greenwich woodshop gives the Cocoon team the ability to expand inventory and custom design decor for its clientele, and to ensure hands-on artisanship for products in the showroom. The woodshop is where artisans create original live-edge furniture and décor from exotic woods, including tables, mirrors, sculptures, wall art, and other décor sourced from obsidian, geodes and quartz.
“The Cocoon team believes that the Naples address speaks volumes about quality to discerning buyers around the world,” commented Siegel. “Plus, it is an ideal base for Cocoon to expand elsewhere in Florida,” he continued.
Cocoon Gallery is a licensed importer of exotic wood from Southeast Asia. The wood is sustainably harvested; only fallen trees are sourced, and a tree is planted for each tree harvested for the company.
Cocoon reflects Siegel's passion for organic beauty, whether it be an Indonesian root sculpture or handmade pottery from Northern Thailand. He travels to remote mountain villages to work with local craftsmen to source treasures from the earth.
Cocoon serves clientele from the design, architecture and hospitality communities, sports and entertainment celebrities, and buyers from throughout the country. The showroom teems with artful objects from small vases and bowls to towering sculptures of intricate roots.
Buyers may visit the woodshop to source raw elements to create a custom piece unique to their interiors. Visits are by appointment and include the opportunity to watch artisans at work.
The Cocoon Gallery showroom is located at 602 5th Avenue South.
