Delco Band Fest

The 5th/6th Delco Band Fest held at Marple Newtown High School on April 3rd, 2025. Students were nominated for the festival after showing a year's worth of consistent practice on their instrument.

The band was made up of 100 students from Delaware County, who met for the first time in the morning and performed a concert in the evening. Students Andromeda, Ella, and Jack rehearsed with the band for over 6 hours and practiced their music for 3 months leading up to the concert. They worked hard all day and enjoyed having snack, lunch, and dinner together. The advanced band songs that they practiced and performed was not only memorable but also a motivating challenge for these brave 5th graders.

“The students from Coebourn, Aston, Parkside, Pennell, and Northley were outstanding in both behavior and musicianship,” shared Mr. Rachko, Instrumental Music Teacher at Coebourn and Aston. “They helped make my first band fest in 14 years an incredibly humbling and memorable experience. It was a pleasure collaborating with Mr. Stetson and Mr. Hazlett throughout the day, and the Marple Newtown team did a phenomenal job with the event logistics. I’m already looking forward to the opportunity to experience a Penn-Delco band fest in the future.”

Congratulations Andromeda, Ella, Jack, and Mr. Rachko!

Kindergarten Comedy Club

Coebourn Elementary’s kindergarteners lit up the stage on April 1st for the 2nd Annual Kindergarten Comedy Show, filling the room with laughter while demonstrating their growing reading fluency and public speaking confidence.

Guided by their dedicated teachers—Ms. Cardwell, Ms. Lydon, and Mrs. Wiley—each student bravely stepped up to the mic to deliver a joke, delighting the audience with their humor. Adding to the excitement, 5th-grade students were invited to watch, sharing in the fun and cheering on their younger peers.

This lively event wasn’t just about laughs—it provided a meaningful opportunity for students to strengthen their literacy and communication skills in an engaging, supportive environment.

Family Survey

To the Families of Coebourn Students,

Our school will be administering the Measurable Results Assessment (MRA), a survey and reporting system designed to provide insights into the progress of our school. In order to provide a holistic picture of what is going on in our school, the MRA includes three different surveys; 1) one completed by all school staff, 2) one completed by students in grades 4 and above, and 3) one completed by the families of students in all grades.

We hope you will participate so we can use the feedback to make our school an even better place for students and families. If you have any questions about the surveys or wish to see a list of questions, please contact the school’s front office.

FAMILY SURVEY

WHAT: Online survey completed by one member of each household. (Please only complete once per a family).

  • Survey typically takes about 5 minutes to complete
  • Questions relate to the experiences you and your child have at our school.
  • Answers are anonymous--to encourage people to be honest and open, no names and other identifying information will be collected.

WHEN: The survey is now available for you to take through April 7th.

HOW: The survey can be taken from any computer, smartphone, or tablet with internet access,

STUDENT SURVEY

This survey will be completed by students in grades 4 and above on a computer at school during the last week of April.

  • Survey typically takes 15-20 minutes to complete
  • Students privately answer questions about their attitudes and behaviors--and can skip questions and stop anytime they choose.
  • Students who do not wish to participate in the survey, or whose parents choose to deny permission for their participation, will be provided with an appropriate alternative activity (e.g. quiet reading) while the surveys are being administered.

If you have a child in grades 4 or grade 5 and DO NOT want them to participate in the MRA Student Survey, please stop by the front office by April 25th to fill out an opt out form. Please know that your decision to deny permission will not impact your child’s grades or your relationship with any member of our school.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration is Now Open!

Do you have a younger child at home who will be 5 on or before September 1, 2025? It’s time to register for kindergarten!

Early registration helps us plan for the new school year, ensuring a smooth transition and the best experience for our incoming students. If you have a future kindergartener, we encourage you to register as soon as possible! Learn more at www.pdsd.org/kindergarten.

Tech Tip from our Technology Teacher, Ms. Cameron:

Spring has sprung! Break is just around the corner, and we can look forward to getting outside for some fresh air. You can use generative AI such as ChatGPT to come up with ideas for purposeful, quality time and model responsible use of AI at the same time. Here's an idea:

Nature Exploration & Backyard Science

  • Turn a simple walk into an adventure by asking ChatGPT for a scavenger hunt list or nature facts.
  • You can also get step-by-step instructions for growing plants, tracking animal prints, or making a bird feeder.

👉 Example: "What cool things can kids observe in nature during spring?"
